How can you start de game with Piqué and Lenglet, the same dudes who were in the defense that conceded 8 goals against bayern.
Especially since Piqué was injured for months and didn't play before with the others in a long time. Same thing for Dest. I think Koeman didn't think before deciding who was going to play this match. They always make the same mistakes its incredible. Many of the players who played last night should have never been there once again.

The superleague is just to rival the CL right? These clubs would still compete domestically as normal?

UEFA's proposed reformat of the CL is horseshit. They're ruining it themselves whether or not some clubs decide to fuck it off and form their own competition in its place.

Yep. Matches would be midweek and clubs would still play in domestic leagues.

This is gonna get ugly really fast.

Yeah... those bans aren't happening. There's no way FIFA devalues the World Cup too and brings about a breakaway World Cup.

Threatening bans is the only card to play.

No, they're giving up potential CL places to play in a different competition. If you believe it's happening. But it's not, it's all just posturing. Like when players threaten to not renew contacts and leave for a different club unless the new contract is worth X amount.

UEFA were primed to announce major CL changes today, the superleague announcement is a power play.

If this supershit happens, then it'll most definitely replace the CL. My point was Spurs, Pools and especially Arsenal won't even qualify for CL next season if the standings remain the same.
As for the new CL format, it's stupid and pointless.

The superleague was proposed months back because the clubs will have known what UEFA had up their sleeve for the CL overhaul. They clearly didn't like it. Clearly weren't able to steer UEFAs thinking either. So it's full superleague presentation time.

I just wish there was a different way to reject the CL overhaul, because at the heart of things, it's best it doesn't happen. But now every club trying to stop it will be despised for their method (I know it's not that honorable what they're doing, that they have additional greed motives on top, but still - ultimately it boils down to UEFA proposing to rip up the competition as we know it and that's a key factor in the action to prevent it involving proposals which would also change competitions as we know them).

That would be the PL cutting off their nose to spite their face. To remove the top teams will devalue their own PL product. And not only that, it would speed up the inevitability of the ESL developing to become a competition which ultimately replaces domestic leagues as well as the continental cup competition.

Same reason why FIFA won't start sanctioning over players making international appearances, because it would just leave countries with sanctioned players eager to create their own World Cup, and since they'll end up being the top countries, the new WC is where the money will move to.

But as of right now, the football associations, and the domestic league bodies, and UEFA, and FIFA can't do anything but respond by saying bans will occur over involvement in the ESL. It's as empty a threat as the ESL is.

New CL format from 2024/25

36 teams instead of 32
New spots for 'elite clubs' that failed to qualify
One league instead of groups
Best 8 to reach the knockouts
Other teams to qualify through new round of play-offs
Every club guaranteed 10 games

Seems utterly pointless having spots for “elite clubs” that failed to qualify. If you weren’t good enough to qualify then tough shit. Play better next season.

As for the super league nonsense; if Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs can barely qualify for the CL how the hell can they expect to play against “the top” teams in Europe in a “super league” Lol. It’s hilarious. I hope if they do proceed that they are withdrawn from the PL and the players are unable to play for their national teams.

These have been made quickly. Usually rush job banners for Anfield are spray paint on a white bedsheet jobs like in the good old days. It's also been announced that the supporters groups are removing their banners from the kop.

Might take a wonder over, see what's occurring. Wouldn't be surprised if there's a gathering before the end of the day but we're playing away at Leeds tonight so who really knows if fans would go to Anfield instead of watching.

Not really because the sponsors will need something to sponsor and the money will follow the drama. Imagine how crazy the Championship 2021/22 season will be! The smaller clubs would actually benefit.
If this is all just a poker game, then let's call their bluff!

If Arsenal get a grip, which I doubt, we can have all English spectacle in the cup competitions this year.
