I know it's not college vb season yet. But this is kinda cool. 80k for outdoor matches
Re: Volleyball
Stanny anon here, yes thank you for the information. I knew they would come to Kentucky since one of the player is from there but it's good to get a confirmation date.
Stanford, and pretty sure plenty of other college teams, will also travel to Europe in the summer.

Nebraska to BrazilMADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin volleyball team will head to Europe from June 2-14, competing and sightseeing in Istanbul, Turkey; Llublijana and Maribor, Slovenia; Venice, Milan, and Lake Como, Italy; and Zurich, Switzerland. The Badgers will play at least six matches against teams from Turkey and Italy as well as other visiting federation or club teams.
I hope they stream the matches.

Re: Volleyball
I absolutely LOVED watching the Asian Club Championships. The quick style with a premium on skill and tactics was so fun to watch.
Was my first time seeing Tran Thi Thanh Thuy (4T) from Vietnam. My word, what a player. Absolutely flies around the court at 193cm, seemed to be attacking from every angle. And she didn't lose steam over 5 sets, which is quite extraordinary for that height.
The Thai team was my favourite, though. Nootsara has so much guile and creativity. Sasipaporn and Wipawee play with such happy intensity. Bosko's friend Natasa was their foreign player. She doesn't have the explosiveness on attack that Bosko has, but is so fundamentally sound and has really good instincts.
The final today was awesome. The arena was jammed and was rocking like a college atmosphere.

I was and still am happy for Fener. But the toxicity regarding all of that online is such a disappointment. From fans lynching the referee to a horrible degree to Kalac and Orge (mostly the latter) overflowing with pure hatred post match.. Emotions, sure, and I don’t expect any player to keep mum about it but contrast it with Eda’s post-match interview, their attitude is more unsportmanslike than keeping your mouth shut about a point on court in Volleyball if it’s in your team’s favor. This has a lot to do with Vakif’s past attitude. Their staff and players can be very arrogant at times. Their ex player Gözde Kirdar is still acting like they invented volleyball in Turkey. Just last year she said there is no competition for Vakif. You think these words don't affect young players?Guest wrote: ↑06 May 2023, 15:32I was and still am happy for Fener. praia still have the south american club championships which starts tomorrow. and let me tell you... god bless all of their livers cause they have some serious filtering to do
carol is all but confirmed to scandicci though. anne is the big question mark, there are no rumors about where she's going next season. i really want her to play for scandicci as well, but it seems unlikely with the signings they've made already. firenze would be the next best thing. all the other italian teams are at least 2 hours away from scandicci/florence.

Don’t know what forro is exactly but they seem like a couple that dances a LOT together at home or whenever they go out, maybe that’s how she became so great almost 7 years of dancing with your love, aw
Re: Volleyball
the rumored oh lineup for scandicci is zhu, herbots, villani and lindsey ruddins. none of them are great passers (or so i heard, i know next to nothing about ruddins) so it's a bit strange that they didn't go for a defensive oh for one of the spots instead. there's no one who can come from the bench to stabilize the pass, but it's not like anne was going be that player either soGuest wrote: ↑09 May 2023, 13:49It would be soo lovely to see them on their fourth team together. scandicci starting lineup should be
maja / antropova (who will count as italian starting from next season)
zhu / herbots
carol / italian mb (there were trying to sign squarcini but i think she renewed with imoco)
merlo i think?
also firenze announced yesterday that all their players are leaving except for one of the mbs, which is... concerning, but it also might mean that there's room for anne there. she'd be a starter too unlike in scandicci, so maybe this is something she chose. cause like, i doubt ruddins is better than anne (she's definitely cheaper though).

Congrats Fener
Ana Christina has developed so much this season she is a great role model for other young players.
Boskovic is out of shape but I'm sure she will start firing rockets again once the NT season starts.
Sanatrelli… he needs all the luck in the world with those Turkish girls.

Re: Volleyball
i guess this is the danger of relying so much on only one player. boskovic is the best opposite in the world imo, but she's not a machine. just look at fener: in the first match of the series, arina was struggling, so ana stepped it up. yesterday ana was struggling and vargas was sick, but arina made up for it.
but if bosko isn't well, ecza can't win, because their whole system is based around her killing 30+ balls every match (without getting blocked 12 times preferably).
i expect vakif to win the champions league as well, though it's just one match so anything can happen. gabi looks very upset about missing out on the turkish league finals and egonu will want to leave turkey on a positive note.

You could see this coming all season w Ecz though. They aren’t a team that consistently plays disciplined and executes fundamentals. They’re out of position on defensive coverage, often staring at each other when balls drop, and the middle blockers struggle w footwork and technique. The wins over the regular season come from superior talent.
It will be interesting to see if Saliha starts. Like you said it’s a one came showdown for the Champions League so anything can happen which makes a potential poor start by Hande even more crucial.

Re: Volleyball
Apparently Carol to Scandicci, Anne to Novara. Sad for them, they won’t be able to love together. They probably both were initially going to sign to Novara.
Re: Volleyball
Yeah, I strongly suspect that was the case. Carol's side of the deal was dependent on Scandicci buying out Danesi's contract, so when Scandicci decided last minute not to do that, Carol's signing had to be called off as well. By then most squads were nearing completion and it was probably too late to try to fit them both into another team (and Anne might have even signed the contract already), so Carol had to go to Scandicci by herself.
If they'd known from the start that Carol was playing for Scandicci, maybe Anne could have been offered to Firenze. Or maybe they'd have negotiated with other teams altogether.
Re: Volleyball
Scandicci makes more sense than Novara for Carol career-wise. She's the best MB in the world, so should be in a competitive team that will play the Champions League. I can't see Novara being title contenders at all with the squad they have. I personally think going to Novara was sort of a compromise on Carol's part so that they could stay together, but it didn't work out in the end.Guest wrote: ↑16 May 2023, 00:06Yeah, I strongly suspect that was the case. All I can hope now is that Novara treats Anne well. They seem to have beef with many different players and that's never a good sign, plus there's the whole homophobic nun thing.

And two is not that I don't understand, but from what I understand about the ultimate gay, I think Carol might have preferred going to Novara. She'd still get the same experience she needs from the league (given that this season her priority would be the Olympics, not club achievements) and would be able to be with her love day to day. Although that still was the case yeah? When she went to a bottom tier club in Turkey after an olympic year.

1. No idea. But they also signed Karakurt who is basically a walking pride flag, so I think the board puts the quality of the player first when it comes to signings and the nun has to just grin and bear it.
2. I agree with you, I think Carol wanted to play for Novara. It just didn't work out for reasons beyond her control (the whole thing with Danesi).
Also I just remembered that Anne said last year that she wanted to play with Buijs-da Silva on her shirt, I wonder if Novara are going to let her do that.
Re: Volleyball
Did they even have time to deal with all the paperwork for that name change? I hope so, that’d be so lovely to see.Guest wrote: ↑16 May 2023, 22:16SAGuest wrote: ↑16 May 2023, 21:13Two things I don't understand here. Well, one mostly. Why the fuck would they want to sign a married lesbian couple, who are the outest in the most undeniable way, if you are homophobic.Guest wrote: ↑16 May 2023, 14:19Scandicci makes more sense than Novara for Carol career-wise. Carol's side of the deal was dependent on Scandicci buying out Danesi's contract, so when Scandicci decided last minute not to do that, Carol's signing had to be called off as well. By then most squads were nearing completion and it was probably too late to try to fit them both into another team (and Anne might have even signed the contract already), so Carol had to go to Scandicci by herself.Guest wrote: ↑15 May 2023, 23:03
Apparently Carol to Scandicci, Anne to Novara. Sad for them, they won’t be able to love together. They probably both were initially going to sign to Novara.

About Karakurt, yeah she’s a walking stereotype with her look but if you pay attention, nothing else is there (gay wise). Signing a non-stereotypical couple that does not hide their love for anyone is more surprising to me.
Re: Volleyball
They will rightly put the professional aspects before the personal ones.
The technical needs of the single teams as well as the available budget must be taken into account.
Surely Carol can aim for a top team and a high salary, Anne probably not. The impression is that Scandicci is trying to build a top roster (despite the important losses), while Novara will probably be more downsized.
Re: Volleyball
But Carol didn't choose to sign with Scandicci because they offered her a bigger salary than Novara or whatever, she signed with them because the Danesi-Scandicci transfer was called off last minute and Danesi was "stuck" with Novara since she still had a year left on her contract. Until like April people were saying that Carol to Novara was a done deal.Guest wrote: ↑17 May 2023, 14:56They will rightly put the professional aspects before the personal ones.

I think Novara was supposed to be a middle ground for them: not a small club by any means, just probably not title contenders. It's likely that if Novara didn't offer them both a contract originally, they would have looked into other alternatives so that they could at least be close to each other (such as Scandicci-Firenze or Milano-Busto or Novara), but by the time the Danesi thing went down, it was already too late for that. I don't think being 3 hours away from each other was ever their plan.

What if instead it was Novara's sports results that made Carol change her mind? Novara next year will not play the champions and other European competition. I think an athlete of Carol's caliber aspires to a more important showcase.
Re: Volleyball
Yup, pretty much agree with all this. Plus, sure she likes to win but career wise the importance of the Pre-Olympic year will always top getting exhausted to the bone on a title contender team. Novara could have served her well in that regard. There’s pluses for both teams when it comes to career choices. Being with Anne every day would have won out for her, no question.Guest wrote: ↑17 May 2023, 15:59But Carol didn't choose to sign with Scandicci because they offered her a bigger salary than Novara or whatever, she signed with them because the Danesi-Scandicci transfer was called off last minute and Danesi was "stuck" with Novara since she still had a year left on her contract. Sure, if it was someone else. But literally every single decision she’s made on her club career says ‘no way’. Also, the leaks were pretty clear and everything fits with each new confirmed information.Guest wrote: ↑17 May 2023, 16:53It can be as you say.Guest wrote: ↑17 May 2023, 15:59But Carol didn't choose to sign with Scandicci because they offered her a bigger salary than Novara or whatever, she signed with them because the Danesi-Scandicci transfer was called off last minute and Danesi was "stuck" with Novara since she still had a year left on her contract. Re: Volleyball
Exactly, but playing a pre-Olympic season in a team that won't participate in international competitions could be risky for her too, in Brazil there is a lot of competition to enter the national team, and she too will have to prove that she is still among the best and not a lady in slippers.Guest wrote: ↑17 May 2023, 17:01Yup, pretty much agree with all this.
