Never seen a combined tournament where the spectators care so little for the women's matches.
The boxes are always empty on the main court.

looks and English speaking. which is why Maria Sharapova at one point was the highest earner even though the Williams sisters had more Slams.
this is also true for just about any sports and is not unique to WTA. looks and English speaking will more than make up even if the sports talent has lesser talent compared to others.
yeah, it is unfair to Iga, but that's the way marketing works unfortunately.

Players like Emma get the big sponsors because of their looks. That type of money just isn't available to players who are perceived as less physically attractive. Those are the real facts of the business side of tennis. DA

Raducanu has one slam as well. her career prize money is $3.7m, which is already more than 1/3rd of Krejcikova's and Barbora has more titles than her.

Re: The Official Tennis Thread - Part II
Surely you don't get more prize money due to looks and English speaking!!
Isn't it more that each tournament pays very differently?
And Emma winning US was bigger than say French open money, ?
I can't believe Stefanos Tsitsipas has 25 million prize money when it's mainly been smaller tournaments.
Maybe I heard prizes have gone up loads in last 5 years.
You only need to get to round 3 in slams for some years to be a multi millionaire these days!

I have never denied the importance of English hegemony and being the queen of topics. As I said, even if Emma doesn't play any more, people will still remember she is the champion of USO 2021. She's guaranteed to be rich for her life with her sponsers. What I'm trying to say is that in the world of competitive sports, it's all about achievements, or titles. Our market in China is open to everyone, but that doesn't mean Emma will make money from it. Even Eileen Gu, who is the most talked about in China, is not making money as easily as she did before and after the Winter Olympics. We are not stupid. The most talked about tennis players in China right now are Zheng Qinwen, Zhang Zhizhen and Wu YiBin, and any one of them winning the title could easily take away Emma's market. They're already doing it.

Emma has both sides of market east and west, similar to Naomi. She might not as popular as their own Chinese athletes like Li Na or Qinwen but I'm sure there is a place for her in China market, the big one, of course she has to win more titles too
but she is still the only one who won a slam recently being half Chinese.
Qinwen is not there yet. I'm cheering for both of them to be successful on both popularity and winning the titles.
It will be great for the tour overall. DA

Sure she will. Our market is too big. We don't mind foreigners coming to China to make money. People with diverse backgrounds such as Eileen, Emma, and Naomi, if they have no achievements in their sports, they can still make big money in China by relying on discussions. To be honest, we lack world-class influencers such as football, tennis, basketball stars... We only have table tennis and badminton, but the athletes there do not have international influence. And many of them have promiscuous private lives. Not everyone can make money in China, from politicians to ordinary people, we have "zero tolerance" for gambling, pornography, drugs.

No. My country is not great. We all live in the real world. You can't say anything else besides fake news about Uyghurs. Some Uyghurs who believe in extreme religions have committed multiple terrorist cases in Xinjiang, killing a large number of Chinese. Of course you don't believe it because BBC never reports on these. You may not even be able to afford a flight ticket to China. The pariah of China bow to the noble white elites of the Western world.

Aryna is peaking isn't she? At the age of 29, another example of late bloomer. All the experiences over the years paying her off now. I first saw her playing Fed Cup years ago and thought this headcase was going nowhere but look at where she is now. Beating no.1 twice for her Madrid titles, won a slam and being number one on the race.

Re: The Official Tennis Thread - Part II
The organization in Madrid is terrible. F Lopez should get his ass out immediately. I have never seen such a shameless tour organization. The birthday cake for Sabalenka was very careless. Now, even in the final of women's doubles, players are not scheduled to give speeches. Ironically, the speeches for men's doubles and men's singles finals have not been cancelled. And the clothes worn by all female ball kids in men's matches are full of insults to women. Madrid, the worst WTA tour.
Re: The Official Tennis Thread - Part II
If the organizers in Madrid look down on women's tennis so much, just cancel WTA in Madrid. WTA can choose other cities.

I have enjoyed Roland Garros thus far.Sabalenka played pretty well yesterday. I was happy for Stephens to get a win today. There were also wins for the likes of Garcia,Vekic,Osorio and Vondrousova.I am personally cheering for Garcia and Rybakina since my fave Badosa is out with an injury. Hoping Jabeur will do well too.
