The Official Tennis Thread - Part II
Re: The Official Tennis Thread - Part II
On the WTA Insider podcast Paula Badosa revealed she will have to receive regular cortisone shots just to be able to play a few more years. She said somewhere else she is constantly suffering physical pain. The big comeback I was hoping she would have is not gonna happen.
Re: The Official Tennis Thread - Part II
Yes! Queenpenko winning Wimbledon would be awesome.

That's too bad. I have always liked Paula and hoped she would eventually recover her form.Guest wrote: ↑23 Apr 2024, 06:37On the WTA Insider podcast Paula Badosa revealed she will have to receive regular cortisone shots just to be able to play a few more years. Aryna really isn‘t the smartest, isn‘t she?
It‘s especially ironic to say that right before the start of Miami, when she was the one who triggered the cakegate from last year. And also she was one of the players that signed the letter to the WTA requesting more prize money.
Yeah well Aryna, go figure why WTA players make less money than the ATP players

has she been to school?
even if she personally feels that way, does she not realise how dumb it is to say it out loud?

It seems like Paula really wants it but her body just can't hold up. That's sad.Guest wrote: ↑23 Apr 2024, 06:37On the WTA Insider podcast Paula Badosa revealed she will have to receive regular cortisone shots just to be able to play a few more years. Sabalenka just seems like a huge mess these days. Isn‘t that the second guy already she starts dating while he is still married?

I really think it was a bad idea for Badosa to play today after the abductor injury last week.Just beaten by a scrub on the main court in Madrid.
Re: The Official Tennis Thread - Part II
18-year-old Victoria Jiminez Kasintseva (from Andorra)won her first WTA Tour match on clay today. She won junior AO at 14 and has had to persevere through an awkward few years since. I think she could be a star of the future if she can add some power.

Cant believe anyone thinks Sabalenka doesn't swing both ways.
I could tell it is never gonna last with any male she dates.

Re: The Official Tennis Thread - Part II
That wouldn't surprise me. Actually, I think a sizeable amount of the WTA are either lesbian or bi but due to circumstances(internalized homophobia, culture, religion,Guest wrote: ↑24 Apr 2024, 16:42Cant believe anyone thinks Sabalenka doesn't swing both ways.

non-accepting family, fear of backlash, etc)they feel they cannot be their true selves.
Re: The Official Tennis Thread - Part II
I have no idea if Saba swings both ways but there is certainly a pattern here of the guys she dates being older and like replacement father figures. Which other players do you think swing both ways or might be gay?Guest wrote: ↑24 Apr 2024, 16:42Cant believe anyone thinks Sabalenka doesn't swing both ways.

Amanda lost another match in a 3rd set breaker! Damned tennis!
Re: The Official Tennis Thread - Part II
Yeah I agree. Not like the majority of the players but a fair amount. Sad they can't be themselves.Guest wrote: ↑24 Apr 2024, 18:05That wouldn't surprise me. Errani just beat Woz. Do you think Woz will keep at it or no?
Re: The Official Tennis Thread - Part II
woz was terrible on clay even during her first stint. she’ll probably decide her future move on the basis of her us/asia hard court swing performance.Guest wrote: ↑24 Apr 2024, 18:29Errani just beat Woz. Do you think Woz will keep at it or no?

NO!Guest wrote: ↑24 Apr 2024, 19:00Will you continue watching if the Premier Tour goes ahead?
Re: The Official Tennis Thread - Part II
da Premier tour was the Slams + 10 masters for the top100 players and everyone else in a separate 2nd tier tour, right? That would be completely dumb. The second tour would never be profitable and the players wouldn‘t make enough money.
But I think there is also noise about a merger including the Saudi 2bn bit. Either way, the future doesn‘t look too bright for the WTA

Re: The Official Tennis Thread - Part II
I’m sick of players like her and Halep with this crap. If they feel that way they should donate half their pay cheque to a male player because obviously men are superior and deserve the money more it’s atrocious they get all the benefits of the players like BJK and Venus and then spout this crap. These girls are their own worst enemies. Also players today are so selfish, I remember either Chrissy or Martina talking about how they would always ensure at least one of them was playing at all tournaments because they knew they were the huge draw cards, even if they needed a break etc. The players today take these huge pay cheques for granted and can’t even promote their own sport. Makes it hard to GAF when they don’t even care. I’m sad seeing Danimal is retiring this year, I’ve seen a clip of her saying she loves women’s sports and doesn’t watch men. At least she knows how to promote.Guest wrote: ↑23 Apr 2024, 17:57https://x.com/PuntoDBreak/status/1782803387253211404

Also on another note sad about Basoda. I keep waiting for her to get her groove back but now sounds doubtful

Re: The Official Tennis Thread - Part II
Players like Sabalenka just want to look cool in the eyes of men. She will never put her money where her mouth is and give her prize money to men, or accept playing in shitty courts during the biggest heat while some man ranked 20 is playing on main court because he puts more strategy into his game. She has nothing to lose by saying this - the money won't change at least during her career and in her deluded mind she thinks male coworkers will give her props for saying this.
The repercussions will be felt by current players in their early teen years who will have to take the burden of shitty WTA leadership and uninterested players of the present that fought for nothing. Half of these cows wouldn't even recognize the original WTA lineup that's the reason for them being millionaires. Once the Saudis get bored in 3-4 years and end the investment WTA might be in big trouble, but Sabalenka will be knocked up by some 50 years old married guy and won't care if prize money gets affected.
I try to be optimistic though that a superstar can come out of nowhere and change the sport. You can argue we already have this superstar in Osaka, but I don't think she has the dog in her to path the way for everyone.

It looks like the stupid Premium Tour is dead(at least for now). The Slams have apparently rejected it. Unfortunately from the 2027 season on there will be a
1000-level opener in, you've guessed it, Saudi Arabia!(there goes Brisbane ). ATP and WTA will it seems cooperate more or even merge as far as commercial and operational dealings. Thoughts?

The morons at the ITF have decided to change BJK Cup finals from a round robin format to a 9-day knockout elimination format.
Re: The Official Tennis Thread - Part II
Osaka is out of Madrid. She put up a fight against Samsonova though to take it to 3 sets. I hope she carries this improved attitude on clay forward with her. It will surely add elements to her game.

I just don't think she is capable to win a slam. I think she will mostly be just a top 20 player in her career.Guest wrote: ↑21 Apr 2024, 19:36zheng reached the ao final when she wasn’t mentally there with respect to her belief in her game. and now she’s going through the crises to manage the expectations, and come to terms with reality. she has the game. her current slump is temporary.Guest wrote: ↑21 Apr 2024, 19:19Not really. Sabalenka in 2023 after she wins Madrid:
Sabalenka in 2024 at the start of Madrid since her form visibly dipped after AO: when actually... I think I prefer men's tennis
lol I mean she can prefer whatever she wants and it's not my point here that she watches men's tennis, just that the timing of that statement is funny
