Moderators - Volunteer Instructions

Moderators

Moderating threads on The L Chat is an unofficial, voluntary position that may be available to users of the forum. The L Chat operator(s) are not responsible for actions taken by the moderators. The L Chat may change the features or abilities associated with moderating from time to time without prior notice. We reserve the right to revoke or limit a user’s ability to moderate at any time, and for any reason or no reason, including for a breach of these Terms.

If you choose to moderate a thread:

You agree to follow the Moderator Rules that are posted to the Staff category of this forum;
You agree that when you receive reports related to your thread, that you will take action to moderate by removing content and/or escalating to the admins for review;
You may not represent that you are authorized to act on behalf of The L Chat;
You may not enter into any agreement with a third party on behalf of The L Chat, or any threads that you moderate, without our written approval;
You may not perform moderation actions in return for any form of compensation or favor from third parties;
If you have access to non-public information as a result of moderating a thread, you will use such information only in connection with your performance as a moderator; and
You may create and enforce rules for the threads you moderate, provided that such rules do not conflict with host Terms, our General Forum Rules, and the Moderator Rules.
The L Chat administrator(s) reserve the right, but has no obligation, to overturn any action or decision of a moderator if administrator believes that such action or decision is not in the interest of The L Chat or The L Chat community of users.

To be considered for a moderation position, you must be a registered user, with an established posting history of at least 100 posts associated with the account.
You must be a regular user of this forum.
Those who are interested should reply to this thread using the registered account, and must indicate which specific thread(s) they are interested in moderating in their post to this thread.

I'm sorry but leaving moderation open to anyone allows trolls access to moderation. Many trolls meet your criteria. They post regularly and have over 100 posts. Many of them are men and lesbophobic. How does that make them qualified to moderate on a lesbian forum? There is a very notorious male troll on the Cara delevingne thread who hates when her lesbian relationships/flings are discussed. He reports any post shipping or discussing her with women and those posts gets deleted. How is that helpful? What does that achieve? If we can't discuss a famous lebian's relationships with women on a lesbian forum, what then is the point?

Again, mandating moderators to remove any reported post is just juvenile. There already is a very worrisome trend of people not being allowed to have an opinion just because some dumb, sensitive troll doesn't agree with a poster's point of view and reports their post, which the moderator complies by deleting it. How does that foster discussions on a public forum? Isn't the point of a forum to discuss and have varying opinions? People no longer visit or engage in L chat because of this. As long as a post is not offensive, vulgar, derogatory, sexist, depraved or homophobic, then it shouldn't be deleted just because some r----- incapable of rational thought is offended by it. And if a post gets deleted, the moderator should follow up by giving a cogent reason why the said post was deleted so that users know what mistakes not to make. Simply saying the post was deleted because it was reported, is not good enough. We're mostly adults here. You can't run this place like a juvenile facility. If a post gets reported, the moderator should examine the post and determine whether it is truly offensive. If its not, it shouldn't be deleted. Discernment and logic should be applied. Also the trolls who report every post should be sanctioned because they constitute a nuisance here.

You need to review some of your moderating rules. If it continues to be so heavy handed and nazi oriented, the number of visitors here will reduce drastically.

Maybe they’ll verify any new mods by speaking to them on a call like they do for Discord?

That could help in identifying males but it won't really be effective. Besides, it doesn't tackle the other issues.

Cannot agree with this more. If all reported post are deleted then this board is dead. Also, I was once banned for reporting post that were actually threatening but because they were from liberal point of view the moderators did not want to delete them.

They can delete anything they want. Its a forum not a country. They ban whomever they want. Its really not that big a deal. If you dont like it then why be here? Make your own forum or find a fb group or something. Or just be nicer? Its not hard.

There are many unkind posts attacking other posters that mods don't delete but if you have a "wrong" opinion then it gets deleted and the poster banned. There was one Wynonna Earp fan who was registered here and has been posting for a long time and has always been nice and never said anything offensive. Then recently she educated herself about gender ideology and started posting her opinions on it and was banned! I haven't seen her post in at least a month so she must've been banned. Her name was Wayhaughtshipper18, I think.

There's no rule that only positive posts about a show or an actress are allowed. Different opinions should be welcome.

I take it you're one of the serial reporters who has a problem with girl on girl relationships being discussed on a lesbian site. This is not a matter of being kind or unkind. It's about being rational and logical enough to entertain different opinions and viewpoints, even if you don't agree with them. This quality comes with age and maturity which many of you, moderators included, lack. It's also about the moderators having the sense of discernment not to delete a post simply because it was reported by a dumb, lesbophobic male troll. Deleting any post simply because it was reported is just lazy moderating. It is silly as hell and will eventually ruin this forum permanently.
Any moderator who is too lazy to moderate properly should be let go and replaced. You can't just delete posts indiscriminately because a mischievous troll wants you to.

Are there more 3d about rules? I don't mean to argue, it's just that I've been looking for them and I have not found anything else.

To me, this board needs more rules instead of more mods. I mean, does netiquette apply here? I don't know, it's not in your rules.
For instance, is crossposting allowed? I ask because I've seen that many flames start because some anons accuse other anons of being that troll that wrote ASDASDASDAS in a different 3d... since we're on a board that allows anonymity this attitude is ridiculous and destructive but I assume most posters don't even know about the netiquette, they simply don't know they can't attack a poster for what they assume they posted in a different 3d. They just have to reply to that 3d, to that specific post, this is what netiquette says.
Netiquette talks about offences and provocative behaviours. Are they allowed here? I know this is a lesbian place but to me this simply means it's a safe place for lesbians. I can see for other posters it means Free Zone, so they think they can offend whatever is not lesbian content.
I guess most anons here are very young and maybe they don't know how a moderated board works. So to me, the issue is not having more mods but more explicit rules, so guests can understand why their posts get deleted.

The biggest problem in the board is that moderators delete based on their own personal opinion or in some cases delete based on a post being reported. This is not how moderation works. It should focus on encouraging discussion and not stifling it. Personal attacks and the like should be deleted not different opinions. If a post is deleted a moderator should post and indicate why.

Also, you need to have actual rules on the board.

Agreed with every word. I don't understand why personal attacks are not deleted it's as if the mod enjoys all the shit stirring in threads. Ironic that those who accuse others of being trolls ARE trolls yet mods don't delete their posts.

3d is a localized abbreviation for thread. I thought it was in use on English-based boards too so ty for the info, I've learned something new :-)
Since it's very common in my country, I guess I'm not the only anon who uses it here :P

From the time of its inception on Zetaboards, TLC has never removed comments merely because they were "unkind." This is a private forum and not a government operation. As such, we have the right to remove content that is not in alignment with our Terms. You have been posting across multiple threads to advance your own political agenda. It's obvious from your comments that your engagement with The L Chat is relatively recent. This is the only time I will be responding to you directly. This is NOT a trans forum and will not be expanding in scope.

Actually, mods are meant to be unbiased and not engage in discussions as to why someone was blocked or banned.

Actually, mods are meant to be unbiased and not engage in discussions as to why someone was blocked or banned.
Not engage in a discussion but they need to state the reason why something was deleted. They need to state which rule was broken. Also mods on this board are in no way unbiased they delete based on their personal preferences.

Your moderators have no accountability and are only after pushing their own political agenda. It's not a government operation but at least be honest about what it is. I don't care if people talk about trans or not but be honest about what the board is about and what views/people are allowed to post on it.

You have no clue what your mods are doing. They're out of line, they're deleting whatever they want, they're banning whoever they want with no reason given. There are so many people complaining about that and it seems you still aren't taking it seriously.

What are your terms? Your rules are so vague, they need updating. First clearly establish the rules, then the mods should give a clear reason for deleting posts or banning people. It's what other forums are doing.

And finally, what political agenda? I'm in no political party. I've been here for over two years. I think you're assuming things because of my IP. Your incompetent mods have been banned me like countless other lesbians for no reason, so I'm using VPN. You should know not to assume things from IPs.

I sincererly doubt any lesbian wants this forum to become a trans forum. Hell no! It's just that if you allow threads dedicated to people who identify as nonbinary or TV shows that feature such characters or actors then accept for gender ideology to be included and discussed. It's normal that in that case it's on people's minds. Simple as that. The other option is not allowing threads about people who identify as nb or TV shows that feature them but since you allow those threads people want to discuss it.

You agree to follow the Moderator Rules that are posted to the Staff category of this forum;
You agree that when you receive reports related to your thread, that you will take action to moderate by removing content and/or escalating to the admins for review;
You may not represent that you are authorized to act on behalf of The L Chat;
You may not enter into any agreement with a third party on behalf of The L Chat, or any threads that you moderate, without our written approval;
You may not perform moderation actions in return for any form of compensation or favor from third parties;
Talking about rules...do you talk about this?
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=75444
ucp.php?mode=terms

SA: my advice about rules was not linked to the trans argument. I guess having more detailed rules is beneficial for everyone, so users get to know what is considered misbehaving and they have no excuses for complaining.

Everyone is always "banned for no reason" funny that. You can demand a mod tell you anything. If you reply to trolls and get banned that's your own choice. Nobody owes you anything. They ban whomever they want. The turn the whole forum read only or delete the entire forum and nobody else has a say. A forum isn't a democracy or a school. Grow up. Christ.... do really need handheld and baby fed the rules of how to behave on a forum? If you wouldn't say it offline to someone's face then don't post it. Don't wind up trolls. Don't accuse people you disagree with of being a male troll or w/e. What's the problem with some of you? Can't you think for yourselves?

Look like it or not kiddo these are not the only reason people are banned. Many are banned for having an opinion the moderators did not like. They were not being rude or "winding up tŕolls".

Also, yes rules do need to be clear. This is how other boards operate and on other boards the moderators show up to say why a post was deleted. I have not come across another board where that does not happen apart from here.

I agree with the rules needing to be more clear.
And just a suggestion, why not let us know which mod moderates which thread? You asked users in the complaints thread to screenshot evidence of their own posts before they get deleted. How is anyone supposed to know? Having some mods be completely silent and delete comments without answers isn't a good idea and it will lead to more chaos.

There should be honest mods and clear set of rules.
Just my two cents.

Also thank you mod if that was really a young lesbian in distress looking for help. A young lesbian thinking that her ex girlfriends transitioning means she can't be a lesbian anymore. With TikTok, Twitter and Reddit being all pushing lesbians to transition and d--- you did a stellar job kicking a confused lesbian girl out. And you all wonder where the next gen lesbians have gone? I mostly agree with you but please remember that even kingdoms have rules. Rules are not there to turn this board into a democracy, they are needed to state who's in command and what they expect from users, just like kingdoms.

Rules are needed as a safety guarantee not against mods but against other uses. I'd like to know if being rude is allowed here or it's just that mods have their lives and they can't obviously check each and every post. I see many guests confuse criticism with offenses and I guess that's why they get their posts hidden and they keep on complaining but... wouldn't it be simpler if mods stated offenses are not allowed here. period.?
There's a complaint section, right? What's its use if there are no detailed rules? In order to complain you need a code of conduct so you can complain about its breaches. No code, no breaches. Why complaining then?
Rules are not needed for grown-up people because they know how to behave. They are needed for those who don't know how to behave and still want to join this community.

Guidelines are required especially for the moderators because they have no judgement. They do no delete based on if something is rude but on their own personal preferences.

People would like to know if criticism of trans or NB is allowed. Is that an automatic ban? Is saying you don't agree with BLM or vaccine or what else not allowed? Is only having a liberal/pro Democrat view allowed? Is that is the case that is a position the board is entitled to take but they need to make those rules clear.

If the position of the moderators is that all reported posts are deleted them that needs to be clear too. Also, if they is the case these mods better follow through on deleting every post that offends anyone not just the ones mods agree with.

Most people can agree not to be rude but not everyone knows what topics and opinions are allowed. Hell the moderators don't know half the time.

This cannot become policy. It just can't. Not on this board. Too many users already abuse the report button to get rid of what they simply don't agree with. If it becomes the done thing that any post reported is deleted, then not only would it reinforce the immaturity of 'differing view = troll', it would also set the board up for rampant genuine trolling. There would nothing stopping some sadsack shit reporting every single post for a laugh. And somebody absolutely would because this place is full of weirdos. A policy like this effectively makes users the moderators while the moderator become nothing more than a button pusher who actually clicks delete.

There needs to be some degree of scrutiny over whether a post has been validly flagged. It falls down currently because the only way to tell the difference between a differing opinion and a legitimate troll opinion is to be invested in a thread enough to know its nuisances. At the same time, there's no way to appoint a mod who is invested unless someone is reg'ed, but the vast majority aren't. The board simply won't find the people necessary to moderate in the required way unless staff start trawling IP history to find out who would be a perfectly fine option to mod if only they had been logged in.

Next best approach is to moderate on lines which need no specific understanding to spot. Things like abuse are plainly seen from thread to thread. Anything else being reported just needs to be ignored and users left to debate it out. I've never once seen a thread not correct itself eventually and get back to the main subjects of it purpose. Derailing isn't a thing.

That is so true. What I don't understand is why posts expressing an opinion are deleted while off topic (focusing on posters, not the object of the thread) and personal attacks are left in the thread. Like how does that make any sense? It just proves the mod has bad judgement and is biased condoning personal attacks and allows trolling.

I couldn't agree with this more. Deleting a post just because some dumb, oversensitive jerk reported it, makes no sense. And like you said, this puts the actual moderating power in the hands of the users and the moderators simply become robots who obeys the directives of users. A reported post should be reviewed by the moderator and if it isn't breaking any rules, it shouldn't be deleted. This means the moderators have to be familiar with the rules themselves to know what constitutes as offensive. They must also be unbiased and not delete a reported post just because they also don't agree with its opinions.

This can't be, it's like having guests moderating the board. I mean, if all reported posts were to be deleted, then there's no need of mods, just add a del button to the interface for anyone to use. :lol:
Mods have to hide reported posts according to the guidelines and their personal sensibility. Being a mod is about choices and choices are a privilege and a burden at the same time. Mods can fail and be replaced if needed. But they are not servants who hide posts at guests' request.

I always see so many anons offering to be mods. Why haven’t any of them signed up as regs so they have an actual chance. Surely the random anons cannot be worse than the mods we have now.

Where are all the Regs!?! Someone with an account and 100 posts please come save us!
Look at troubleshooting - plenty of people can't get registered plus alot of the mods are woke TRAs who would try to fuck registered users over for posting.
DA. Yeah it's messed up when some mod with an agenda, bans your registered user account.

I volunteer to moderate the tiktok thread

There's a mentally ill troll (as u can see) spamming the thread with F's.

This has been going on for 3 months now, and it reduces the traffic of the thread to a minimum.

There's no such thing as moderating a thread. You'll be asked to mod the whole board. And judging by the shit you're interested in we'd rather you didn't.

That's completely untrue. Some mods are thread-assigned. They do have overall board rights, but they can only do what Smurf allows them to.

Delete, delete, delete. No matter what, no matter where, in a thread a mod has never been to, for reason unknown. Who needs a kid interested in tiktokers to mod a possible grown-up convo? Not that those happen in here, but who knows.
