I just got back from spending the weekend at the Madrid Open. Saw a whole bunch of players up close and personal on the practice courts and in the grounds, it’s a pretty cool atmosphere. However, it was a real bummer to see how small the attendance of WTA games was vs ATP and how the tournament is geared up to ensure the ATP matches are at the better times. We watched both the Rybakina and Sabalenka back to back matches on Friday and the main stadium was basically empty because they were a morning matches. It kind of blew my mind because for me they’re unmissable superstars!
Nice you had a great weekend at the tournament :)
I‘m not surprised to see low attendance at the women‘s matches. It fits the overall theme of the tournament with last year‘s debacle and they are not really doing much to promote the women (same as the WTA basically).

Anyways, do you have some behind the scenes stories you want to share? :D who is friendly to the fans, who not so much?

Then I saw AA in the background.
This one? I think that‘s Amanda’s apartment.
Eleanor seems to live in a much smaller dorm room at her college.

Why do we think Amanda Anisimova is dating a girl?
Aren't they just at the same college and maybe sharing accommodation?
Or just good friends.

If the pictures alone aren‘t enough, have a look at the comments and which of them Amanda liked ;)
A couple of pages ago someone pointed out that the girl in Amanda‘s post has some TikToks that don‘t leave a doubt that she is into girls.
She also have a vlog channel and they definitely aren‘t sharing accommodation. Some vlogs are in Amanda‘s apartment. Looks nice

Surely no one actually believes Nadal's BS about possibly not playing the French Open and being injured?

He pulled the same shit in 2022. He will be running around like Bolt when it comes around. No doubt Alcaraz and Djokovic will be drawn into the same half too..
.
conveniently leaving out the fact that he said similar things last year and ended up not playing
Oh I've found one. If you believe Nadal's BS, which he has been pulling his whole career, then I have a bridge to sell you..

Injured if he loses, a warrior if he wins. That's always been his MO. As for his absences, silent bans clearly mean nothing to you..

Good wins in Madrid for Sakkari and Jabeur. I'm looking forward to Jabeur vs Ostapenko next round.
Javier deserved to win because Fernsndez‘ serve was absolutely horrible in the third set. But in her current form, I don‘t think Jabeur will do much against Ostapenko.
That's a fair assessment. And yeah,Jabeur is going to have to improve vs Ostapenko.

For once, I think Nadal's injury is genuine..however, I still expect him to inject all sorts come RG time and for the draw to be rigged for him.

He's hilarious really, called Novak obsessed but one of them was willing to miss slams for his beliefs, the other will do ANYTHING to win. As far as I'm concerned, he is 3rd behind Novak and Roger.
his beliefs are dumb. traveling the world is a privilege. ur fave is a moron.
You Nadal fans are hilarious. Nadal is an awful, sexist and nasty pig. He would sell his wife to win anything. He’s a cheat and always has been.

Novak is a d--- but at least he is honest. Nadal is a joke. He claims he doesn’t care about slams but helped get his rival deported so he could actually win one.

Because it is, we have swiatek as no.1 , that says a lot about women's tennis

Aryna really isn‘t the smartest, isn‘t she?
It‘s especially ironic to say that right before the start of Miami, when she was the one who triggered the cakegate from last year. And also she was one of the players that signed the letter to the WTA requesting more prize money.
Yeah well Aryna, go figure why WTA players make less money than the ATP players =_=
I’m sick of players like her and Halep with this crap. If they feel that way they should donate half their pay cheque to a male player because obviously men are superior and deserve the money more :eyeroll: it’s atrocious they get all the benefits of the players like BJK and Venus and then spout this crap. These girls are their own worst enemies. Also players today are so selfish, I remember either Chrissy or Martina talking about how they would always ensure at least one of them was playing at all tournaments because they knew they were the huge draw cards, even if they needed a break etc. The players today take these huge pay cheques for granted and can’t even promote their own sport. Makes it hard to GAF when they don’t even care. I’m sad seeing Danimal is retiring this year, I’ve seen a clip of her saying she loves women’s sports and doesn’t watch men. At least she knows how to promote.

Also on another note sad about Basoda. I keep waiting for her to get her groove back but now sounds doubtful :'(
its fuck sabalenka now . if you think womens tennis is shit then go do something else with your pathetic life instead of collecting money that you as a woman dont deserve . god should transfer kontaveits injury to sabalenka & rid the tour of this braindead meninist . at the very least let this new married man shes having an affair with knock her up & disrupt her prime . shes a literal pick me in her romantic life with her homewrecking ways . she & any other wta players with this mindset are freeloaders who profit off of the sacrifices of others & give nothing back & they all can go

Sabalenka in 2024 at the start of Madrid since her form visibly dipped after AO: when actually... I think I prefer men's tennis :)
lol I mean she can prefer whatever she wants and it's not my point here that she watches men's tennis, just that the timing of that statement is funny

I have doubts about Zheng. She only made the slam final because she had a 250 draw. She can't beat the top players like Swiatek/Sabalenka/Rybakina and others.
hello marta!
Not really. I made almost the same post a few times pages ago. During the AO.
It seems i was right since she is not doing very well since then.
zheng reached the ao final when she wasn’t mentally there with respect to her belief in her game. and now she’s going through the crises to manage the expectations, and come to terms with reality. she has the game. her current slump is temporary.
I just don't think she is capable to win a slam. I think she will mostly be just a top 20 player in her career.

Players like Sabalenka just want to look cool in the eyes of men. She will never put her money where her mouth is and give her prize money to men, or accept playing in shitty courts during the biggest heat while some man ranked 20 is playing on main court because he puts more strategy into his game. She has nothing to lose by saying this - the money won't change at least during her career and in her deluded mind she thinks male coworkers will give her props for saying this.

The repercussions will be felt by current players in their early teen years who will have to take the burden of shitty WTA leadership and uninterested players of the present that fought for nothing. Half of these cows wouldn't even recognize the original WTA lineup that's the reason for them being millionaires. Once the Saudis get bored in 3-4 years and end the investment WTA might be in big trouble, but Sabalenka will be knocked up by some 50 years old married guy and won't care if prize money gets affected.

I try to be optimistic though that a superstar can come out of nowhere and change the sport. You can argue we already have this superstar in Osaka, but I don't think she has the dog in her to path the way for everyone.

NO!
da Premier tour was the Slams + 10 masters for the top100 players and everyone else in a separate 2nd tier tour, right? That would be completely dumb. The second tour would never be profitable and the players wouldn‘t make enough money.

But I think there is also noise about a merger including the Saudi 2bn bit. Either way, the future doesn‘t look too bright for the WTA
