is she
No lmao. People use the word underrated far too much these days. 99.9999% of the players called it very much aren’t underrated.
da. i don’t really know how to phrase this lol. but i feel like a lot of players aren’t so much underrated as they are undervalued.
take keira for example, i do think people now recognise her talent and how instrumental she is, particularly to england. like it’s not some big secret. but when it comes to awards, i think she can still be undervalued there.
and i do think there is a difference. to me being underrated is basically being an invisible player who no one really recognises for anything they do, whereas being undervalued is sort of not getting personal awards for what it is you do.
I get u & agree. Keira was def the best example here. She’s 100% not an underrated player anymore, after you have a record breaking transfer to the top domestic team in the world, it’s hard to argue that you’re still underrated lol. And then when people constantly point out how integral you are to your country and opposition say they try and mark you out… again, you’re no longer underrated. That’s people very much seeing you and your talent. But she for sure can go undervalued when it comes to awards.
Da. Why is that though? How can a player be a record signing, be seen as so integral and the person to mark out, etc etc, and yet still not be the one to get individual awards?
I think it’s down to a few things.
For one, if you look at Barcelona for example, they have a hell of a lot of great players. When it comes down to awards, it is hard to compete in that area, and more often than not I feel like it’s going to lean towards a Spanish player (the same way English clubs and fans tend to lean towards English players). Then it also goes to like the most prolific, and Keira’s not really up there as highest scoring or anything lol.
Also, and no offence here, but I feel Keira sort of lacks a really strong brand, which is necessary for individual awards. Look at Bonmati and Putellas, you hear about them non stop through the entire year and their PR massively pushes them. It’s part of why they win, part of why Putellas won her second Balon D’Or despite her ACL. Same on the men’s side, look at Bellingham right now and the PR around him. Personally I feel Keira does just lack that, which is fine, but it will impact her when it comes to things like the Balon D’Or and such.
