Will Azzi be ready for the start of next season?
She should be. Likely start on a minutes restriction but that will be 11 months from surgery and 9 month recoveries are very common.
For Azzi's first ACL tear, she was cleared for basketball activities/after 9 months. This tear wasn't as bad as the first one and by all accounts from UConn and their beat reporters, she's well ahead of schedule. I imagine like the above said, she'll have a minutes restriction through 2024 and then in Jan '25 probably rejoins the starting lineup. I also think this is why they actually need Chen. Behind Paige, there's only one other true PG on the team and let's be honest, KK has a good bit of growing to do. This will help ease the burden on PB and brings in a 4 year starter. Experience is invaluable and Chen offers 15 and 5 while also being a solid defender.
Yeah Paige cannot be playing 40 minutes a game every night again. You could tell her legs were gone by the end of the tourney. Chen will allow her to get a decent rest most games.
Felt like she and Aaliyah had absolutely nothing left at the end of that Iowa game. They had the unenviable task of having to play outstanding defense and be the primary scoring options with 0 rest for like 3 straight games. If anything, UConn just needs bodies and Geno needs to use them.
Jumping topics to others in the thread, I'm curious to see how Kiki and Juju works out. I think it's no secret that Juju was a bit of a shot chucker this season and she had like a 40% usage rate. It'll be interesting to see how they work together, plus that massive freshman class they are bringing in.
With S. Carolina, Cardoso will no doubt be missed. You just can't do much with her height and if I'm not mistaken, I think the tallest on their roster now is 6'3 or 6'4 so that evens the post playing field a bit for other teams. Not to say S. Carolina will be worse off, it's just heard to deny that type of post presence.
WCBB is going to be awesome next year.
