So Earps only liked Turner's post but did not comment and still got unfollowed/blocked by LJ, whereas Bronze and Le Tissier liked it as well but have not been unfollowed yet. Walsh and Roebuck did comment before they were unfollowed/blocked. I'm pretty sure Melvine Malard unliked the post/deleted her comment on Turner's post and LJ is still following her. Feels like something else happened behind the scenes beyond just comments on a post...
The Malard bit is interesting. She's not a Lioness and wasn't at United when LJ was playing there. Does anyone know if they're friends?
I think as a black woman she probably understood why it was harmful and changed her mind about liking it.

Millie Turner and Mary Earps seem go get on very well judging from last nights FA cup footage.I guess that is because they are close in their positions as goal keeper and defender sort of. Examples would be when Ms Turner hugged her from behind with one arm after she kept the ball out of the goal, and also after the game when celebrating Millie touched her face in her right palm and they had their foreheads close to each other with the others around them all hugging on the pitch. Source for examples: Women's Football Highlights on y.t. 1. inm. 10:13 and min 15:14. FA Cup Semi Final Manchester United - FC Chelsea.
I thought the same they seem very close

Can someone explain to me what the English tax is that people bring up?
Don't know exactly which examples you're referring to, but typically in English football, whenever a player is said to have 'English Tax' is relates to their value being inflated by their nationality. Them being English makes them more expensive for clubs to buy because there is finite number of them and clubs have to meet the squad quota for homegrown players. Also, English football just generally likes to overvalue English players. To put it another way, Player A is really worth 100k, but they happen to be English, so their club sets the price at 250k after the 'English tax/premium' is added on.

Anybody defining it without the monetary value of the player involved is applying the term wrong. The clue is in the term itself 'English tax' - tax, money, value.

English players being favoured by the English media or whatever does happen, but this isn't really what 'English Tax' means in the true sense.

Being favoured for being English essentially when people who are equal quality or better from other places are overlooked. Fifa best was a prime example, undeservedly Lioness heavy.
funny thing is that with dvd’s (gk version) injury, earps would’ve been the only thing on arsenal’s mind this summer for that position. but she seems to have burned bridges there and that connection is gone.

There wouldn't have been anything to blow over at all if it hadn't been LJ involved. What happened with Turner was relatively tame standard fare football stuff, you see players wrestling the ball off each other after goals in high stakes matches all the time. This particular incidence ranks bad because 1) it looks a bit head locky as opposed to two toddlers snatching a toy off each other 2) the player doing it has a reputation that precedes her. If there wasn't such a good chance LJ takes to the pitch in the coming weeks and boots a player in the face then the incident with Turner would have just been used as peak meme material. At the end of the day it's LJ's own fault that people think she went all UFC on Turner. She didn't. The overreaction is real. But so too is the possibility that LJ does one day go all UFC on someone.

I think a lot could depend on whether United win the FA Cup and what the setup looks like next season in terms of staff and players, as I don't think any of that squad want or deserve another season like this one under Skinner.

On balance I wouldn't be surprised if she stays, even without CL football next season. None of the other top teams in the WSL need a No. 1 GK and idk whether she would leave England for abroad. Earps' star has been on the rise since the Euros, and she is now regularly at events, doing TV appearances and such like, obviously trying to build her profile. Would a move abroad derail all of that?
Her post-match with the BBC was interesting. She was clearly very happy with the win and getting to another final and she said "to win a trophy at this club that I've been at for 5 seasons, it would be everything".
You could extrapolate that by pointing out how long she's been at United, she's also hinting it's time to move on. Or it could just be "it's about time we win a trophy" type thing.

The fact she hasn't signed a contract at least suggests she's not fully on board with staying, even if she does eventually.

wonder if we’ll still hear the mlt shouts next camp
You just know next camp is going to be such a media circus regardless

Turner is called up = media non stop pushing a hostile type environment narrative, and constantly asking questions in press conferences.

Turner isnt called up = the moment with LJ is blamed, and it’s seen as a way to keep them apart or some shit. and then the media push their whole narrative here.

LJ in camp = an unquestionable move, she’s not getting dropped any time soon. and then the media are obviously all on it, wondering if Sarina’s had her input, if LJ is still fine with all the girls, etc etc.

+ Earps, Walsh, Toone being unfollowed as well = looks even worse than the Turner unfollow because they hadn’t been involved on the pitch, so makes the media speculate more.

The only good thing about this whole situation is that it happened really early on, so i’m hoping it at least dies down by the time the next International camp starts because we really don’t need this mess when we’re 2nd in the group and facing top of the group France (hardest opponent in there). But even then you know whatever decision is made with Turner will just bring it back up again.
I haven't seen any media speculating about anything yet. The media that matters that is, not the online ~journos~. I highly doubt the BBC, Sky, Guardian etc lot will be getting involved at all. It'll be a non-issue on the media side, surely.
I agree.
If camp was like starting now maybe that would be different because it'll be a current situation but when the next camp will start, the situation will be well in the past.
Also, let's be honest, Millie T isn't a valuable player in the England squad. She is called up because there's injuries in the defense. She got her only cap during a friendly and it wasn't for a few minutes. So Sarina clearly only sees her as a plan C. Hopefully Millie Bright will be fit next camp and I'm sure she'll be the only Millie in the squad list.
LJ should be punished for her ghetto hoodrat behavior.
I feel like you keep making these comments so that someone will reply to you saying how bad English people are. Feels very much like bait.

To be fair, I wouldn’t put it past the English media. Obviously they haven’t said anything right now but again I wouldn’t put them past even just bringing it up when it’s actually international break.

That being said, I doubt they will. Mainly just because this occurred very very early on of the last international break ending. If it had happened just before the next camp, i’d have expected to hear even a comment but tbh I think it’ll blow over now, there’s like a month or so.
But...like...nothing has actually happened. You really think they'll have Wrighty discussing how LJ has unfollowed a few players? It's such a non-story, especially in the women's game where the media are nowhere near as greedy for 'salacious' gossip.
No, not necessarily that. But I do think if this happened right before England camp they would discuss it. Whether or not it would cause tension in the England camp, if it had been discussed in England camp, Sarina would probably be asked her thoughts on it in the pre-match presser, etc.

I mean, they always ask stupid little questions like that. Back when Leah had her handball against Chelsea that wasn’t called years ago, they asked her in an interview before a game if it was all good with the Chelsea players and if it had been discussed in camp (or something along those lines). They often do ask about games and moments like that.

I doubt they’d go into it deep, but it would still get a question or two. I don’t think it will in this instance though because like I said, I think it happened far too away from the next camp for it to still be so relevant.

Tbh i’ve always thought that majority of those shouts came from people who were just following others. Most people saying she should’ve gotten a call up weren't even United fans, and weren’t even people that had regularly watched her play. Her antics are literally nothing new. People just follow the ‘crowd’ so to speak and assume she’s what we need(ed).
You perfectly summarized a lot of woso "fans" on Twitter: they don't watch the game and if they do don't understand it so they just follow a trend based on nothing and will criticize players not deserving it and hyping others also not deserving it

If LJ wasn’t black no one would still be talking about this two days later :nails:
No one is ACTUALLY saying anything to James from what I have seen. It's actually Turner who is getting all the heat. That one post from Turner took all the focus away from James on field behaviour. It's not always about racism. I love James, but I can't always defend her antics on pitch . Sometimes she is too aggresive
When a white player does it it’s passion and gets laughed about when a black player does it it’s aggression.
LJ is a big bitch and know she will get away with it because the white guilt fans will bring up her race to support her, they will see her kill someone and still defend her.

Why are some of you in the English thread slagging off the lionesses and talking about McCabe that should be over in the international thread
It’s just Skam Slur Stan trying to bash arsenal at the same time while calling everyone racist. No other player has committed the same level of violence against others that LJ has and they’re mad we, along with her English teammates and other victims (like Alozie), have called it out.

Let’s be honest, the only small majority still talking about it is; this place, disgruntled online Chelsea fans and a few other chronically online social users.
Some of you thinking this will turn out bigger than it is when the next international break comes up will be disappointed. Guarantee, this would have blown over by then.

looks like keira’s deleted her comment, seemingly after lj unfollowed her.
No she hasn't. Stop trying to do fake damage control to protect her.
What did Keira say?

Nothing she did this weekend was aggressive.
