Sam doesn't engage with the Matildas' social media anymore.
She’s 1) on holidays right now and 2) not part of the squad atm, probably feels a bit shit to see the updates and be missing out. Ellie didn’t engage with much team content when she did her ACL either. I don’t follow Amy Sayer so I don’t know if she is interacting with posts rn but it wouldn’t surprise me if she isn’t. Sam has engaged with important posts. Lydia’s A-League sendoff ovation post, her retirement post, Ellie’s first time with the arm band, etc. I’d expect her to engage with all of the Lydia related stuff that comes from tomorrow

Given Teagan was injured, missed Liverpool’s last game, didn’t join the team in Adelaide and then having now joined in Sydney wasn’t training and was only walking laps are we to assume she still isn’t actually fit enough for selection but she’s presumably come into camp so the medical team can assess her and so Tony can see her in person regarding being selected for Olympics?
No we aren’t to assume that. When you consider that Katrina will be selected and expected to be match fit by the time the last prep friendly happens, who had a more serious injury that required surgery, it’s pretty easy to conclude that Teagan will be fit for selection too. Hers is just a little calf niggle but you can’t really play with those, especially a GK. Doubt she plays tomorrow but she’s on the plane to Paris 100%
Agree with all this. She'll be named in the 18 and on her way to Paris. Lyds as the alternate.
I am the OP of this about teagan and let me just say, I worded it so so badly. What I meant was that given her injury and the fact shes not been able to train and I doubt will be available for selection tomorrow, has she just joined the team so they can assess her AND she can be part of the talks with Tony/olympic squad announcement stuff on Tuesday? I absolutely know she will be in the 18. It just seemed odd to me that they would get her to come join the team in Sydney when she wasn't even fit to train today and walked laps with Caitlin, so there must have been a reason they got her to join for the end of camp.

Tony's presser talking about purposefully naming the team on Tuesday so they can announce it and make it a big thing on home soil etc makes me think they are having an event or something for it and unveiling the players etc so maybe teagan has been brought in for that?
She didn’t just walk with Caitlin though. Media are only allowed into the opening 15 minutes of training, the rest is closed. Teagan did walk with Caitlin for the media portion but later put cleats on, the team account posted her and Lydia. Media could not report on that because they weren’t there for it
That’s not Teagan that’s Mackenzie. But to answer OP yeah she’s likely there because she’ll talk with Tony about where she’s at and it’s very likely they’re going to take squad pictures and stuff this window to use for Paris. So she needs to be there for that. Probably also a hyped up announcement since the squad is being announced Tues morning and they’re at home. The girls will be eager to get on with their holidays and such but I bet flights out for those who are taking them are booked for Tues arvo

Will Lydia maybe play 40 mins and come off for an ovation before the half similar to the All Stars game? Only issue with that is it uses 1 of the 3 windows for subs...so I am thinking she might play 60 mins and then come off alongside another couple of subs. She still gets her moment but it also then leaves Tony with other available sub windows to use.

for some of the newer fans who maybe dont know much about Lydia she is a class act, been so important for the other keepers and their development and fully deserves all the attention she will get tomorrow
Or they could do it the other way? She could get subbed on in the second half, finish the game and then they can do a full time presentation.

Nothing yet that I’ve seen but surely they will. But weird that these matches weren’t pride themed actually, or at least the second one since it’s actually in pride month
They're hyping this up as Lyd's home farewell game so probably don't want to overshadow that.
That must be it. Other teams have already made their moves and are also wearing the armband.

Yep! She apparently passed the medical (gooooood sign it was just a little twinge/niggle like the LCL game), but as we all said, not worth the risk of further injury.
How disappointing for her! Apparently her grandmother was coming to watch her play (which is big if anyone knows how much she means to her and how she can’t travel). Damn u tony for playing her in Adelaide when we didn’t need to, but thank god he isn’t going to risk her tomorrow so he’s back in my semi good books.
Oh her nan was going to watch her? Not surprised, kinda expected she'd have a few family and friends in the crowd after she storied with two best friends this arvo.

But honestly, while hindsight always brings fresh perspective, Tony could have not played her in Adelaide, and the same thing may have happened in Sydney anyway. There's just no way of telling, except for her body telling her and everyone else just how desperately she's been overworked and needs this upcoming break.
Where it says that Caitlin passed the medical ?
The news article above from the Daily Telegraph had been updated after I first quoted the article. It now has the line -

While Foord passed the fitness tests the coach isn’t willing to risk his star playing in a friendly match.
Thanks 👍

No we aren’t to assume that. When you consider that Katrina will be selected and expected to be match fit by the time the last prep friendly happens, who had a more serious injury that required surgery, it’s pretty easy to conclude that Teagan will be fit for selection too. Hers is just a little calf niggle but you can’t really play with those, especially a GK. Doubt she plays tomorrow but she’s on the plane to Paris 100%

Nah, she’ll be selected for the Olympics. Was reported by Liverpool to be a minor calf thing they didn’t want to aggravate for the last game because those can be tricky to come back from (it’s what kept Sam out of most of the WC.) The injury is only minor. She’s not in doubt for Paris.

Little Cait update!
Caitlin Foord is unlikely to take the pitch on Monday night after suffering a hamstring injury in the 1-1 draw against China.

Foord, who lasted just 14 minutes in the second half before coming off injured, didn’t train with the main squad on Sunday afternoon.

Instead she walked laps around Accor Stadium
with keeper Teagan Micach who only joined the camp yesterday.

Gustavsson will wait until after the training session and a meeting with team medical staff before making any official decision on Foord’s role in the last competitive game before the Olympics.

But with the Games on the line it is highly unlikely he will risk his star player in a friendly match.

Foord has had a busy schedule in the lead up to the camp and Gustavsson said it was hard to find the balance between resting and playing players in situations like these.
Ok, if Cait didn't even train today, she better not be on the pitch tomorrow. Same for Teags. Expect Lyds to start and Macca to sub on for her just before half time like the all stars game.
Lol @ me sitting in my hotel in Sydney after spending $1k to come watch Foord play in person 🥹🥹😭 obviously would rather she doesn’t play so she isn’t injured for the olympics, but DAMNNNNN FML. Still super excited to see the rest of the team, Foord is just my absolute favourite and I only ever get to watch the games normally on TV.
Oh no, sorry anon. Foordy is my fave too and I was hoping she'd get to play in the final send off home game too, but yes, we have to look at the bigger picture... all that being said, I still blame Jonas for not resting and rotating her enough during the season.

She is available from end of June onward? I also wants to know what is this Euro friendly you referring
Da. Nothing has been officially announced for us that window but presume camp will be somewhere in Europe and they will likely have some BCD friendlies.
Wonder how it will end up. Euro teams have a match on the 16th July and the Olympics start on 25th July, will they get rest? will they start immediately with camp and have no BCD friendlies due to lack of time?
We will start knowing soon I guess
I mentioned it in a post above, but it seems to have got lost, haha, but they usually have a behind closed doors friendly against another Olympic team about 1-2 weeks before the Games begin. It won't be against the US or Zambia, but could be any of the other 12 teams are up for grabs (although, I'm guessing Spain, France and Germany are also ruled out as they'll have Euro qual games - that'll be their final prep game).

So options for our last prep game are Brazil, Colombia, Canada, NZ, Japan or Nigeria. Brazil would be a good one I reckon.
Japan would be a good one too!
Yeah Japan will be a good team, also no overly physical teams please.

Definitely!! They'd be top 2 choices for sure. Both would really test our defenders, which is what we need if we're gonna stop the US in particular. We really don't need to play Canada for the 4th time in 12 months haha.

Just heard an interview with Katrina and she said she’ll be ready to play 1 month out from game 1. Have a feeling she will feature in that euro friendly.
Also…watching the USA they have a young inexperienced forward structure. Rodman, macario, smith and Swanson/pugh. These players will need time to gel as cat and Mallory have been out for a while. Emma has a lot of work to do so no idea what we will get at the Olympics. I think Germany will be the toughest game with USA second. Zambia not sure as they tanked it at the WC and that creep of a coach is still there sadly.

Same, as far as we know the euro teams all have their euro qualifying matches on the international windows, unless they are referring to a match against a non-euro team that takes place in Europe, but that would be a strange way of saying it?
Op. I meant the final preparation friendly prior to Paris. I heard it was in Europe which would make sense? Maybe it’s Colombia? They haven’t locked in a game yet and will be playing too. Either way it’ll probably be in Europe.

Germany will not be our toughest game, they could barely score against France in the nation’s league (and that lineup didn’t have Renard in defence). Germany will be a tough one to beat as they’re gelling more as a team but the German defence can be beat if we come into the game with proper tactics

US will be the hardest game imo. Mal is soo good and if Emma Hayes learns from today then she’ll play Rose at the start. Rose and Mal’s link up is insane. The US are also just generally a fast team

I hope Tony is working on defending set pieces with the team and GKs especially. CatMac is a deadset set piece legend

They usually play a behind closed door friendly a week or two before the games begin against another Olympic team that is not in their group. One final test sort of thing before going into comp.
