Unlike Sarina the other day basically ruling the Lionesses out, Gleeson hasn’t done the same thing with Katie. Saying, while it isn’t ideal, they’ll work around it if she does come to Aus. I personally don’t see Katie missing the trip, a “game first” and a trip to Aus with Cait (who can give her all the potential jet lag/recovery tips), but we shall wait and see (some of the first team, other than American/Canadians are going to have to come over, as much as people say they’re not - there’s not enough known academy kids).

Can we all just agree that discussion of the following are all on topic here:
  • the Tillies
  • Australian football players
  • Australian football players' clubs
  • Australian football players' relationships
If you don't like a certain player/their SO/club, that is fine - not everyone likes everyone. just keep scrolling, No need to engage.

This conversation is getting completely ridiculous.
Yes. Thank you. That convo is being hijacked by someone just wanting to fight because they hate a couple. And can we also just make it clear that this is a supportive environment for our players - we report and remove posts that are obvious trolling or just unreasonable hate towards an Australian player. Scroll on or stop visiting this thread if you don’t like what’s being discussed.
The thing is you consider ANY pushback as "obvious trolling or just unreasonable hate". If it doesn't fit your narrative = troll is shitposting.
This is 100% true. The thread is becoming boy who cried troll whenever anyone seems to get annoyed with the absolute shit show of the psycho stans. Maybe they react so strongly to reporting and calling everyone trolls because they get embarrassed when called out for their cringe behaviour.

Cute! This was the Arsenal men’s game they all went to in the new year
I don’t think we knew Ellie made definitely this trip to London? What I find funny about this is people saw Daan at this game and said they didn’t know who she was with (someone said it looked like she was with her agency’s staff) 😂
Yes we did know (at least if you saw the insta stories that is), Daan posted an Instagram story pic on that trip that Ellie had taken of her in their hotel room and then Ellie herself had posted a pic of that same room around the same time. They were never pictured together at the time but the math is easy enough to do lol. There were trolls in the international thread saying they broke up because dvd went to London by herself

Mini is having surgery in the next couple of days, which kind of gives an idea of how serious the injury is…
I know it’s still a few months away but having surgery now isn’t great for the Olympics…
Do we know what her exact injury is? Tear of some sort? Depending on the severity it might not be as bad with some rehab.

Feel bad for West Ham, the 2 players they brought in to help save them from relegation are injuried.
I’m sure I saw a journalist quote skinner as saying it was a high ankle sprain from a foul that wasn’t given, but I might be wrong. High ankle sprains often don’t result in surgery unless ligaments are completely torn, so you’d have to imagine there’s some quite severe damage going on. The timeframe will surely be tight (if doable at all), but I suppose no announcement that she’s definitely out of the Olympics is a good sign? If she was to miss the Olympics it would be a horrible end to her international career if she didn’t change her mind and stay on for the Asian cup maybe, and would also seriously dent the Aussies already quite thin chances of success given Sam’s injury.
Reporters at Optus have said Gorry is out until mid-May. It’s in this article
That is not quite correct. The article gives a may 19th date because that’s when the WSL season ends, but says she’s out “until atleast” then. Mini herself said her season was over with West Ham yesterday so we know for sure she’s out until mid May, but no clarification or timeframe has been given and only found out today she’s having surgery. It’ll be later than mid May with the surgery for sure.

That household is really going to have their hands full in the next couple of months! Looking after harper, Clara heavily pregnant, mini having surgery and the dog. I’m glad she’s in London and has a support network around her. West Ham seem to be a good family club, they’ve got macca Kirsty, Charli, kcc all around as well.

Da. She has 3 and half months to be fit for Paris, it will be tight but it's doable if all goes well.

I hope she makes it. Not just because she's such an important player for Aus but she was considering this as her last international tournament. Her plans might have to change now or she retires without one last shot at a medal.

Does one have to be Australian to participate in this thread? Because it's clear an Australian is always all up in the International and England thread? Should we ban all Australian player talk from those threads?
You don't have to be but to try to stop Australians talking about an Australian player either with or without her partner in the Australian thread is just stupid and that is troll like behaviour. International thread is a free for all and everyone can be discussed so to try to stop talk about players in there is also stupid and there are undoubtedly even more trolls spreading hate about our players there, but if you think Australians will tolerate shit talked about their players in here, again you're being stupid and your troll posts will be called out and reported.
1000x this. Say it louder for all the international trolls popping up in every single thread to try to stop people talking about Caitlin and Katie. I can agree they do attract unhinged people, whether they're haters or stans but to expect people to stop talking about them in this specific thread is just so fucking dumb.
The problem is we all visit most of these threads. So bringing up Australians in the International thread, and then claiming the England thread is for the English league and not the English NT makes it annoying. We only need to hear about these players and see the same posts in two threads max. The people in here should post about Australians without being controlled but when it's done incessantly in the other two threads, it's annoying as all hell.
To quote Sam Kerr " the sun makes people happy"

So forgive the English thread as they hardly see the sun in the uk. We are happier and relaxed down under
A massive reason for immigration to Australia from England in the 20th Century is because so many people hated the dreary English weather and wanted to live somewhere that was warm and sunny year-round. Bet there’s quite a few here who can thank their grandparents for that haha.

Unfortunately I think EVE will definitely make the Olympics roster if she is fit, and Tony making her a VC sort of adds to this. I don’t think it’s crazily controversial for people to say she hasn’t exactly deserved her nailed on spot for quite a while, and I would honestly like to see other players be given some of the chances and time that she has had. She was dreadful in the Uzbekistan game, if a younger player played like that we wouldn’t have seen them again. However, I think all of our wishes will be unfounded this time around.
EVE is way too slow, her touch is horrendous and I don’t really know what her actual position in the team is going to be and there’s enough experience elsewhere now that I don’t think that’s enough of a reason either.
My issue comes when let’s say there’s 2 spots between EVE, Sayer, Yallop and Vine for example. I really really would not want EVE taking one of those spots away from Sayer or Vine. And to be honest with Tony I could even see him taking both EVE and Yallop which would be insanely silly.

Not necessarily, but may be a wake up call to some of our players who are over secured and have not been performing as well as they could have been (albeit slightly diff positions, and one maybe controversial player in my humble opinion 😬). While I think Heyman will make the Olympic squad over Gielnik, perhaps Tony is thinking and tossing up between the two so now with the injuries he can trial it without it being crunch time in the China games?
Who do you think it not performing for national team out of interest?
EVE which we've discussed before, whether it's because she was out of season for the last two breaks (though was playing in the Dub for the Canada games), but she's been frustrating to watch.. And controversially, because I think her lack of club minutes has impacted her Matildas game, but Raso 😬. I love Ras, don't get me wrong, but I have been underwhelmed by her on the RW.
Agreed with EVE and Ras. I’m willing to see how EVE looks now that she’s in season with her NWSL team but don’t have high expectations. Ras just hasn’t played enough which isn’t her fault. Also as an aside from that I think it’s great that Gielnik is being given a shot, we are short on forwards overall, but we all know he probably isn’t playing her or even thinking of her beyond just feeling like he has to call more bodies in to this one camp so what is the point really
Raso’s WC shows she brings it when it counts. One of our best. She brings energy as much as anything else.

EVE I would agree with. Ras, we need.
Absolutely Ras brings grit and determination to the team, but her lack of club minutes has affected her performance and confidence in the Matildas. I know the Olympics are post season, but hopefully returning to the WSL and hopefully to a team that appreciates her, her execution can improve her game.

But do you think the addition of Gielnik means Tony is planning to shift someone out of a forward or striker role and put them somewhere else? We have Sayer, Fowler, Heyman able to play 9 or 10. Gielnik has the experience but she seemed done at international level the last time I saw her. But now just watch her rise up on Sunday and knock the minor premiership out of Sydney’s hands…😂

It’s starting to look super fucked for the Olympics. Gorry was an absolute motor in the WC. I don’t see anyone else doing the work she did. Kennedy is still super prone to injury, Foord is already held together with tape, Hunt might not fully recover in time, we have no idea how Michelle will fair against actual fit competition that knows how to mark her… Our shit depth is once again exposed.
Heyman has the element of surprise I guess? They don’t know her in Europe and she’s wily. But I agree, we have no idea how she’ll go at this level. Exciting, stressful, magical times. #nomoreinjuries

Agree that Gielnik is a weird selection…it’s like no offence girl but we’ve got your position covered. Mids and CB are where we are short so at least Winona Heatley ticks that box? With Logarzo and Gorry out for centre mid, we just have EVE, KCC, and Wheeler?
What? We do not have “her position covered” lol we are so short on forwards. The forward line is our biggest concern spot actually. We aren’t short in the midfield either. Several of the players listed as defenders can play in the midfield. We have EVE, KCC, Fowler, Wheeler, and Torpey. Fowler plays as a forward for club but Tony uses her in the midfield for the Tillies most often. Torpey is listed as a defender but she actually plays on the wing
Sure, agree to disagree but I guess as we have goal scoring capability from the wings - Foord, Vine, Raso more than she used to - scoring goals feels a little better with those other players I mentioned in the mix as well. I’m just someone who gets palpitations whenever a wing back is pulled into the middle so I want that line to be covered. I would also say we don’t want Fowler in the midfield, at least not deep. She has to able to roam and get up close to the box. Just because people can play higher or lower than they normally do doesn’t mean they should.

I disagree with the article, and I feel like they're ranting for the sake of it because who they wanted included didn't get included. Gielnik has been playing well for Victory, and I thought was unlucky to miss out on original selection. We lack forwards, so her coming into the team allows stronger competition for Paris, which isn't a negative thing in my opinion. Heatley is part of the U23 team, which the writer failed to mention, only looking at recency bias with the U20. Freier is a left mid, and other than a game against City when they played a low block and she was the LB, she's not played defensively as the writer bitches about thinking she'll be a fullback (as if Steph's not playing 🤣).

Who is the controversial player I’m curious? My guess is EVE for not performing well enough to justify a spot in the Olympic roster let alone the starting 11 but I didn’t think that was a controversial take here.

Gielnik has the experience but she seemed done at international level the last time I saw her. But now just watch her rise up on Sunday and knock the minor premiership out of Sydney’s hands…😂

Hip injury. She's out for the foreseeable future.
Ugh, so gutted for her. She has not had a good run with injury. I'm glad she got to train with the team in Dubai but so disappointed she didn't get any minutes in either game.

Agree that Gielnik is a weird selection…it’s like no offence girl but we’ve got your position covered. Mids and CB are where we are short so at least Winona Heatley ticks that box? With Logarzo and Gorry out for centre mid, we just have EVE, KCC, and Wheeler?

Squad update.

I love that Tony is now willing to blood more new players with Winonah and Sharn. Looking at Winonah's wiki page, she received an international call up in 2021 against Ireland, but didn't get on the pitch. The Tillies article mentions she received a call up in 2022 as well, and it seems like she's having, a great season "the 22-year-old is currently one of the top defenders in the Elitedivisionen, leading the league in defensive interceptions, blocked shots and ball progressions, while second in the league for final third passes."

Freier is receiving her first senior call up - she doesn't have a wiki page, so I don't know much on her, but have watched her a couple times in the Dub and she's been doing alright, "the 22-year-old currently leads the competition in key chances created and is third in overall chances created."
I don’t know the new players, but pleased to see Gielnik get a call-up: I’ve enjoyed watching her play for Melbourne Victory this season. That goal from just past the centre-line a few weeks ago was a banger!

You're obviously not even Australian so stop pretending you are and stop trying to police the thread like you have been doing on every other thread. Telling people to "ship" in here and then posting the bs like you have above trying to stop people talking about them when they are 100% relevant here.
Don't know why the English thread is even being brought up here. I have never visited that thread and I don't care to. Caitlin and Katie should not be brought up in that thread so if you want to try to stop people talking about them, that would be the thread to do it in, not in here.

Shame about Nevin. Would've been a good opportunity to prove herself for Paris. Hopefully no more injuries we're dropping like flies atm.

Hoping Mini's isn't too serious 🤞

I understood the English ladies was their national thread one? I’ve never posted in there, nor does it make sense to post about Australians in their thread. I’ve popped in every now and then and don’t see Australians mentioned ever. You’ll probably find the people posting about Aussies in the international thread are not from Australia.

Do we know if she is injured? Or has just pulled out for personal reasons?
Matildas article (once you get past the formatting issue) mentions a hip injury. Wish Leicester mentioned that in their press conference before the game over the weekend, but makes sense why she wasn't on the team sheet at all.

Also, what's with all the hip injuries of late? Started with Charlie Rule (who is finally back training after 3 months), Chloe a couple weeks ago, Daphne Van Domselaar at Villa, and now Courtney.
Women have wider hips maybe the impact of repetitive foot planting is causing issues to the hips

I wish someone would do a general tally of posts from January 1, 2024 to today and see how many of those are Cait/Katie shipping posts compared to literally any other topic.

The backlash towards Cait and Katie fans is simply because of how insufferable the shippers have become. The stalking. The constant demand for content. The rewriting of history. Acting like any sort of pushback against their shipping is trolling.

I wish I could just scroll past it. But it’s on literally every. Single. Page.

If people are screaming about containment chambers, there is a reason for it. The AUS player thread is not a Cait/Katie shipper thread despite constant thinly-veiled attempts to turn it into one.

So you’re really saying there is no Ellie and Daan talk? When I posted about Sam’s engagement it became multi pages about when Ellie and Daan would get engaged. It was annoying, but I just scrolled and let their fans do their thing. And then they actually did get engaged! And since then there’s been multi posts about the rings - including stalking family and friend to see close up of Ellie’s. Multi posts about the wedding dresses. Multi posts about the wedding guests. Multi posts about which wedding venue they are looking at. Multi posts about who Ellie has now followed to do with the wedding. Multi posts about their apartment and whether the kitchen has always looked like that or if they’ve renovated. Multi posts about whether Ellie’s family will stay with them at their apartment during the olympics. Multi posts about her visa vlog and whether Daan was filming it. I love Ellie and Daan and will never tell people to not post what they love, but you can’t say this thread is just Caitlin and Katie talk. I find it strange how much hate the Katie and Caitlin fans are getting when this should always be a respectful place for all our girls and their fans. Everything is on topic here.

Yes.
It becomes troll behaviour when you’re inherently negative about things they can’t change and just complain and start fights because you don’t like them. Scroll on.
(OP) I think people should still be allowed to be critical here, without being called a troll. I don't want this thread to become like others (or one in particular that comes to mind) where any discourse that is not 100% positive gets called trolling. We should be allowed to say (for example) 'x player played like crap tonight' or 'I don't like this starting 11, x player should be in for y' or 'x just deleted their photos of y/posted this cryptic message, have they broken up?'. Those were just random examples, there are probably better ones, but this thread doesn't need to be 100% positive all the time. Just no trolling.
I agree with that sentence I bolded above!

Everyone has an opinion and we can agree to disagree. There is no need to call someone a troll, hurl vulgarities, call them dumb when you disagree. It just reflect on their upbringing isn't it?
Does that even happen here tho? I remember post Arsenal Chelsea game everyone was saying how Foord and Catley had a shocker and no one was calling anyone troll. It’s mostly the international thread that has these gigantic fights where they call each other dumb and use slurs.

  • Australian football players

  • Australian football players' relationships
If you don't like a certain player/their SO/club, that is fine - not everyone likes everyone. just keep scrolling, No need to engage.

This conversation is getting completely ridiculous.
