Am I the only one who finds Vine overrated? :spy:
She’s “overrated” in the sense that because she scored the winning penalty in the WC people have inflated her actual football ability into something that it isn’t. She’s a decent squad player for the tillies, no more. I’m still yet to see her genuinely impact a game of high international quality in any meaningful way. It’s been discussed in here before, that whilst it’s obviously her decision to stay or leave, she really needs to head to Europe or America to further her game and take that next step up. At her age I thought she’d be pushing for a starting spot on the tillies, or atleast giving Tony a tough decision to make, but that’s not the case at all and there are still some people who think she won’t even make the 18 for the Olympics. Nobody can tell her to give up her happy life in aus, but from a purely footballing perspective I think she will be left unfulfilled if she stays here forever.

I missed the part where Alanna and Teagan suddenly became close? When did this happen!
Think they’ve got closer since they always travel to tillies camps together now both being in the north of England. Posted a few TikToks together and stuff. Found it funny that Teagan competes with alannas best mate for a job effectively, but they are all clearly professional enough to not let it affect them off the field!
For some reason my mind went straight to Rachael Laws rather than Macca 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

They are all professional. Their off-field relationships are not a reflection of their on-field positions. This is professional sports. Teagan’s best friend in the team is direct competition for her other good friend to see minutes at all. It doesn’t affect them personally. All three went on a trip together last September. Some fans don’t even realize that Micah was the starting keeper (check out the 2020 Olympic replays) and would have remained so if not for injury. Stuff like that happens. If there were bad blood over it no team would function. Mac and Teagan have an understanding that at any point one could take the spot from the other, that’s the nature of the GK position. But it’s not new that Teagan and Alanna are friends. They always have been.

It sounds like Mariona might be joining Arsenal, which could affect Caitlin's playing time since they're also reportedly looking for a younger winger. It'll be interesting to see how things unfold next season for Caitlin. :fingcross:
This is a big rumour. But yes that might be good as Foord has played way too much this season. Her usual form isn’t there for that reason. If they’re in all four comps they need better rotation. Mariona won’t outright bench Foord like Foord benches Lacasse, but it likely means Foord and Catley will come on more as super subs.
Foord will benefit from more rest and better competition with Mariona joining. But it's ironic that Foord's ex's current girlfriend is replacing her on the team.

Mic drop from Vine here. She’s right. We can get so caught up in the sporting side of it all (signing for big clubs, growing fanbases, development, etc) that we forget the human side. Not everyone wants to uproot their whole life. Not everyone wants to sacrifice everything off the field that makes them happy for the sake of sport. Vine pretty clearly wants to stay where she is and I think media should stop hounding her about it.
The problem lies in the quality of football available in the A-League. If she chooses not to move abroad, that's fine. However, when she plays for the Matildas, she may struggle against tougher opponents, which could raise questions about her place on the team.

Which young players are on the rise with international quality, destined to secure a spot in the Matildas' lineup in the future?
Galic and Dos Santos are two that immediately come to mind.
Same two for me! And Holly Mac if she can stay healthy

They can't be too far off the announcement... Glad to see that Chidiac has made it so far!
My friend made the connection the other day that Chids & Hannah were named early because the were part of the kit reveal. I really did think the GF last weekend was the perfect opportunity to announce a player or two, esp off the back of Sydney's win and if any of their players are included (Cortnee for sure, Mackenzie maybe, Charlotte maybe).

Literally just search “Far Post Pod” on whatever podcast app? If you have an iPhone it’s available on Apple Podcasts. If you have an android then I don’t know since I’m an iPhone person but it’s really not difficult to look it up yourself.
It literally takes nothing to be nice. Anon, here's the link to the ep & also linked the part where they talk about Cortnee and a bit about Daniela.
Thanks so much for the link and snippet, anon. I don't usually listen to podcasts so really appreciate it. I do wonder with Cortnee if she is reluctant to go overseas because of her relationship? People have been talking about her going overseas for a while now and I'm sure people around her would've been saying the same thing. If there is a club willing to take both her and Charlotte overseas, I think she wouldn't be as hesitant to go.
I don’t think it’s entirely her relationship. They’ve been together five years and are very settled. It’s part of it the hesitation I am sure, but I think Cortnee genuinely wants to grow the game in Aus and in her mind staying in the Dub off the back of her WC “PK hero” recognition would help do that. She was right, it has helped grow the game locally. But she does need to go to Europe or the US to develop her game further. The dub has done all it can do for her in terms of helping her in that way. I do wonder though if she is keeping how Chidiac’s journey has gone in mind. Chids had a hard time seeing the field in the US and Mexico. Going overseas isn’t beneficial when that happens.
Oh, that’s true. Most have had success when moving but Chidiac has been an outlier. Not because of anything she herself has or hasn’t done, but because she ended up on teams that just didn’t value her. It’s a risk you take and Vine just may not want to take it. She’s a great player and with the right development would really shine. If she stays in the Dub she’ll just be at the level she’s at now forever and that’s not going to be enough. Chidiac has improved since being back in the Dub but that was after extensive overseas experience. Even though she didn’t play much she still trained and was developing in ways she would not have in the Dub

I believe she was also finishing up her university degree as well, but I do think her relationship is likely a big part of it. I still think that she’s at least 2 years overdue for going overseas- probably should’ve gone to Sweden in 2022 when KXC, Nevin, etc. went- but if she could go over after the Olympics and get a couple of years under her belt to grow her game, that would be ideal. Obviously it’s great to have stars playing in the A League to grow the sport in Australia but I also think that staying has held her back from developing as much as she can as a player and it really shows.

It’s obvious that’s the reason by now. And honestly I don’t see why people keep pressuring her with this move. If she’s going to be miserable, I don’t see how it benefits her game in any way.

I think a few (myself included, even just the other day) have said to further her development Vine needs to head overseas. She's stagnating in the Dub. And if she wants to cement a place in the Matildas and be a preferred winger once Cait or Ras retire, she needs to step it up.

Interested in hearing what they said about Galic though?
Pretty much she should do one more season at City and do a Fowler and move. They see her in the same light as Kyra and Mary where she'll be slowly integrated into the Matildas squad while being so young.

Worth listening to the whole ep if you have time.

Re: Australian Womens Football

by Guest » Yesterday, 11:35

Another note about Far Post too if you are unfamiliar, they do really great roster rundown episodes when rosters are released for tournaments. For the World Cup they had a “big board” where they’d discuss who they thought would make it a few separate times before the actual squad came out. Really informative. With the Dub season being over for the year they will in all likelihood do an episode in advance of the China games, then they’ll do a recap of each game. After that they’ll likely do a roster prediction episode and then once the squad is out officially they’ll do a rundown ep of that. If you don’t subscribe to them already, I recommend it!

You can now register your interest for the All-Stars jerseys on Ultra! If I wasn't an Arsenal fan, I would def look into getting one (still may depending on who is included in the squad). $125 ea and available in XS (8) to 2XL (18).

https://www.ultrafootball.com/products/ ... 61x2mw-alw

Also had the thought, Arsenal are rumoured to be releasing their 24-25 jersey this week, and then wear it in the Brighton game on the 18th. I hope they're not considering wearing it here in Melb. The jersey is horrendous. Surely, surely, it's gotta be the red, white & gold.
If they do release the new one this week, and wear it for their last league game, then it’ll be the one they wear in the friendly. All of the marketing will immediately switch over to that jersey and it’ll be game over on the red/white/gold ones. Which also means that renewal of contract videos for players who are renewing and new summer arrival announcements will be done in that one too

Re: Australian Womens Football

by Guest » Yesterday, 08:36

Question to the *Australian* Arsenal fans here: are you not concerned about your players having to do this additional friendly after the season when so many of them have important qualifiers to play in?

I am not an Arsenal fan, but if it was my team I'd probably be torn between being excited and not wanting it to happen at all because why are they doing that to the players.

So I'm wondering how you all feel.

Just depends who you’re going for. I think they’ll announce soon, maybe next week!
The WSL have the week off due to the FA Cup final coming up this weekend, so wouldn't be surprised if both squads were announced maybe towards the tail end of the week. Name them 2 weeks out from the game. Or very early next week.

They’re really not odd or confusing at all, they’re just private. All of this hysteria only started because Hayley went on a trip with her good friend instead of to the marathon. People from there jumped off a cliff and decided that 1) Hayley and Izzy had broken up and 2) Hayley and Teagan must be hooking up. Based on literally nothing. There was zero hysteria when Ellie opted to go on a trip with Charli and Teagan instead of going to support Daan during Nations League. No one went wild deciding they broke up. No one insinuated Ellie and Teagan must be hooking up. Ellie and Daan got engaged like two months later. It’s entirely possible Hayley and Izzy discussed things beforehand and mutually agreed that Hayley and Teagan going on a trip was fine instead of Hayley going to the Marathon. Point being, we know nothing and gossip is just that - gossip. This particular instance spun out of control very fast
Da for me it wasn’t just the fact that Hayley didn’t go to the marathon (maybe it would’ve been too difficult logistically for her to get to London and back and staying in Spain was better for her schedule) but the fact that she didn’t interact with Izzy’s post about the marathon at all. Didn’t like it, didn’t comment “Great job!” or “so proud of you!” or anything like that. I have run a marathon and it is so hard and very much a big deal, especially your first one. A partner, especially a partner of 3 or 4 years, would most definitely have commented on it. And while they’re definitely private, Hayley commented on stuff like that before for her.
^thats how I felt. It’s not unusual for them to show support for one another, especially for an event that Izzy had been training for, for months. To not even like the posts, but be posting yourself so clearly active on Insta, seemed to me that something wasn’t right.
It’s entirely possible that something wasn’t right but to jump straight to a breakup and hysteria like there was is ridiculous. They’ve been together for many years. Long enough that some missed likes don’t hold much weight. Like if Sam didn’t like a few of Kristie’s posts in a row, no one is launching straight to “they broke up!!” same with Mini/Clara, Ellie/Daan, Emily/Kat, etc. Hayley and Izzy are not engaged but have been together a long time. Social media (in)activity isn’t a reliable read on anything.
It's not just the fact that she didn't like a post or even a few posts in the row. For instance, if Sam didn't like a post about Kristie showing off her latest outfits, or posting about West Ham training, or whatever, I wouldn't bat an eye. It's the fact that this was a fairly major life event for Izzy- something she's been training for for months and has posted a lot about, something she worked hard to raise money for, etc.- and that Hayley had zero interaction with it that is making people think something is up. It's not just any everyday social media post.
Yeah that’s where I am at too. The trip with Teagan wasn’t the “???” moment for me at all. It was unfollowing the Matildas and RM. but I did just look at her socials and as another anon said it does appear she has unfollowed most teams, perhaps due to her punditry? I didn’t search for all of them but as far as I can tell she just follows Everton women. So maybe it’s wild coincidence. Or maybe they had a fight. Any number of things really. But they didn’t unfollow each other and many Matildas players congratulated Izzy under the marathon post. Could they have broken up? Sure. But I think it’s entirely possible it’s not what it looked like in the moment.

Man they are such an odd and confusing couple. Part of me feels like they’re over (so so many posts have gone “unliked” recently) and maybe it’s an “I want you back” like we’ve all been guilty of to get our ex’s attention HA

Ellie fan still trying to police what we can gossip about in this thread. She got what she wanted in having the two couples threads creating after crying about it for months (mainly because of Caitlin and Katie), now she is trying to act like gossiping about a possible break up = hysteria. Surprised she hasn't whipped out her favourite insult "stalkers" which funnily never applies to her about Ellie and Daan only everyone else about other players or couples :eyeroll:
Yep the random inclusion of Ellie and Daan into the argument gave it away. Yaaaaaaawn. :nails:

It’s very strange as you’re trying to dimish all the evidence something wasn’t right. Hot girl summer holiday while your gf is running a marathon she’s been training for, for weeks = NOT WEIRD. Not liking a single post or commenting about the big achievement your partner just accomplished = NOT WEIRD. Both of them not interacting anymore on social media = NOT WEIRD. Izzy unfollowing her gfs teams on social media = NOT WEIRD.

You’re missing the point that it was a CULMINATION of all the above that made people question if they’d broken up.

Da No one was hysterical ffs it's GOSSIP. Atp the only hysterical one overreacting is you darl. Take a walk.
And all those couples live together lmao and are also ENGAGED. It’s more likely they’re not breaking up. It also WOULD be weird if they were active on social media and not liking any of their partners posts for a long period of time. Stop trying to suggest this wasn’t a weird thing hahahahah.

Chill. For me Izzy unfollowing Matilda’s and RM was a dead giveaway, whilst also stopping interacting with Hayley’s pics. And the timing of the Hayley/Teagan trip gave “my best friend just broke up with her gf so I’m trying to cheer her up” vibes. None of us in here suggested they were hooking up as we know they’re friends, that was the international thread. It also was strange for long term gf Hayley not to hype up or support Izzy’s marathon which is a MAJOR milestone and if you follow Izzy you know how much of a big deal that was. Yes they’ve always been private, but you can’t disagree there have been some very very strange coincidences. No need to compare this situation to Ellie/Daan (?!) as the situation is quite frankly wildly different.
The situations are similar in that Ellie and Hayley went on vacation (Teagan just happens to be a common denominator lol) instead of going to support their partners in something important. Only one of those situations caused breakup hysteria.

Did no one consider Hayley unfollowed a bunch of women’s teams due to her punditry job and maintaining objectivity? She follows no women’s teams in any league or internationally as far as I can tell now. Only Arsenal men. She follows plenty of players, but no teams anymore.
DA Why are you getting so worked up about gossip on a gossip website?

Some people thought they were acting weird/possibly broke up based on numerous factors including Hayley's radio silence about Izzy partaking in the marathon, Izzy unfollowing those accounts all of a sudden at the same time as this radio silence, and no interaction between them on social media for about a month which was out of the norm for them. This is gossip, ergo it was talked about here.

Stop making false equivalences because it's more than just Hayley going to Malaga with Teagan. A real comparison would have been Ellie going on holiday with Teagan AND unfollowing accounts related to Daan AND not interacting or liking posts for about a month.

No one was engaging in "break up hysteria", people calmly discussed and suggested they might have broken up in the vein of gossiping. For all we know they did hit a bump but have worked it out which is something realistic that can happen especially in LDRs. Some anons did suggest it could be just a fight not a break up because they were still following one another.
