I disagree with the article, and I feel like they're ranting for the sake of it because who they wanted included didn't get included. Gielnik has been playing well for Victory, and I thought was unlucky to miss out on original selection. We lack forwards, so her coming into the team allows stronger competition for Paris, which isn't a negative thing in my opinion. Heatley is part of the U23 team, which the writer failed to mention, only looking at recency bias with the U20. Freier is a left mid, and other than a game against City when they played a low block and she was the LB, she's not played defensively as the writer bitches about thinking she'll be a fullback (as if Steph's not playing
).
But do you think the addition of Gielnik means Tony is planning to shift someone out of a forward or striker role and put them somewhere else? We have Sayer, Fowler, Heyman able to play 9 or 10. Gielnik has the experience but she seemed done at international level the last time I saw her. But now just watch her rise up on Sunday and knock the minor premiership out of Sydneyâs handsâŚ
Not necessarily, but may be a wake up call to some of our players who are over secured and have not been performing as well as they could have been (albeit slightly diff positions, and one maybe controversial player in my humble opinion
). While I think Heyman will make the Olympic squad over Gielnik, perhaps Tony is thinking and tossing up between the two so now with the injuries he can trial it without it being crunch time in the China games?
Who do you think it not performing for national team out of interest?
EVE which we've discussed before, whether it's because she was out of season for the last two breaks (though was playing in the Dub for the Canada games), but she's been frustrating to watch.. And controversially, because I think her lack of club minutes has impacted her Matildas game, but Raso
. I love Ras, don't get me wrong, but I have been underwhelmed by her on the RW.
