If we're going off the past few int. breaks, the squad for China should be released tomorrow! What changes do you see from the Mexico game? Obvi Amy is a forced change with her ACL. Does Lydia get a special comeback after announcing her retirement (and is there a chance we include 4 GKs and not drop one)? Do Wini & Sharn hold their spots? Does Clare slot right back into the backline? Ngl, I am a tad devo Em G and/or Chloe won't be included.

I've included my 23, and bolded the changes (inclusions). I'm actually going the 4 GK route.

GK (4): Macca, Teagan, Jada, Lydia
DF (7): Ellie, Steph, Lani, Torps, Clare, Charli, Polks
MF (6): Mary, EVE, Kyra, Meeks, Wheels, Sharn
FW (5): Cait, Ras, Heyman, Vine, Sophie

Okay, I lied, I've only named 22 because I'm tossing up few names for the 23rd. With the injuries, it does make it hard to see an out and out 23.. but I would love to see Kayla Morrison called up just as a that extra security for Clare & Polks, esp with Clare returning from injury. I know Steph could slot in like she has, and we already have 7 DF but.... The other two names I was tossing up were Chids and maaaaaaaybe a big maybe, Mackenzie Hawkesby as a wildcard. After not getting any game time whatsoever in the WSL, she's come back into the A-League and killed it.
I agree with the 4 GK inclusion. If anything they’ll have Jada sit out this camp so Lydia can be in, but my preference would be that they bring four.

I also agree with your other changes, those are the ones I would select too. And I’m VERY on board the give Morrison a call train. I think Wini will get a better look after the Olympics. I’m SO SAD Em G won’t be coming but am excited to watch her on the amazing race
Speaking of, when does the new season start and what channel is it on now? I haven't watched the amazing race in ages and from memory it used to be on 7 but think it switched to 9?
It’s on 10 now! Since 2019
Great, thanks. Knew I'd seen the ads on another channel but couldn't remember which one lol

Who do we think will be next to have kids? I’d say Steph for sure, but out of the WLW players probably EVE because her partner isn’t a footballer. Can’t see the others having kids before retiring, so I guess Kristie and Sam would be next on the list in that case.
EVE because her partner isn’t a footballer, Sam if Kristie retires soon due to whatever injury is plaguing her, Em Gielnik and her wife I could see since her wife is not a footballer either, maybe Ellie since Danielle will be retiring after next year and won’t be playing anymore. None of those seem imminent to me though. Within the next few years for all cases but first I would probably go with EVE/Kat. That’s also assuming all of those couples want kids, some may not. I also wonder if Meeks and her wife want more than one or are content with just one

With Steph’s wedding being in 2025, I don’t think she’ll be next. Maybe EVE or Sam (I don’t see Kristie playing much longer if she even can with whatever is wrong with her. )
I think she will either get pregnant post Olympics and then be back for a home Asian cup, or she will get pregnant after Asian cup and maybe stop.
I’d say probably Kristie and Sam because I think Kristie will be done in next year or so anyway, but if Sam is still playing and they are travelling and what not maybe they’ll wait till both are done.
The one I’d love to see have kids is macca because she is so so good with them. All kids seem to love her!

I would assume that most will come back to settle in Aus full-time. The only one I feel confident will likely settle somewhere else is Ellie, I see her and Daan staying in Europe (although Daan wants to coach so they could be moving around a bit). I could also see Sam and Kristie splitting their time between Australia and the US.
Makes it hard when some of our girls have foreign partners. Australia is far away from Scotland/Ireland/USA/Sweden for example. I think most of them LOVE the sun so Australia maybe is the pick from that perspective, but idk if they’ll all move back if they stay with their current partners.

Defs can’t see Ellie coming back. They love Europe.
Hmmm. Why do I feel like Clara and Mini will move to Aus, same with Macca and Kirsty. I would have thought Aus for Sam and Kristie but with the way Sam has been treated since the legal stuff they might prefer the US now. Hard for Katie and Caitlin as Katie is a national icon in Ireland, can't see her wanting to permanently leave that behind but also can't see Cait staying in Ireland. Ellie and Daan are only ones I'm convinced won't move back to Aus.
I definitely think Mini and Clara will settle in Australia eventually, I think this stint in England is likely mostly so that Clara can be near loved ones when she gives birth (maybe giving birth in Sweden? They’re back there now) and has a small baby. Once Mini retires after next season or the one after, the baby will be a toddler and it will be easier to make that permanent move. I know Mini has said she plans to carry Clara’s egg for the third baby, just like Clara is carrying her egg for baby boy.
Wow! Didn't know Clara is carrying Mini's egg. Is the donor the same guy = Harper n baby boy r full blooded siblings? Not that it's important but out of curiosity. This couple is so sweet and Harper bonding with Clara since baby days makes it so good
Yes, i believe it’s actually from the same batch of embryo’s as Harper’s. So she and baby boy are full siblings who were conceived at the same time, but carried by a different mum and born 3 years apart. Kinda cool!

I’ve wondered about this too. For the ones who want to settle in Australia post-playing career it would make sense. Like Mini at West Ham very much feels like a stopgap. I know she has said she’ll retire there, so coming back to Aus to play is out of the question, but I would be very surprised if they choose to live in the UK full time after she retires. Others in that age range who are in the WSL now I could totally see playing a year or two in the Dub to cap off their careers. As for who will live in Aus full time after playing I have no idea.

Think it depends on what careers they want to go into post football - if it’s something they can do remotely and travel, if it’s something they can do part time and work when they want etc. I could see Kirsty moving to the Gold Coast with Macca and then settling down there. Katie I could definitely see living in aus, a lot of Irish do. I think we assume a lot of the Aussies would want to settle back and live in aus post football because they always talk about how much they love aus, love being back, miss the sun and beaches etc whereas I don’t think your ever going to hear someone say “oh I can’t wait to head home to Edinburgh”(sorry to the Scot’s).
Kristie and Sam I agree will likely split their time between both. Sam has lived in America for years before though so that’s an easier thing to envisage whereas Kirsty, Katie, Clara etc haven’t ever lived in aus. I’m sure it’s something they’ve discussed though and likely wouldn’t be together if it wasn’t manageable long term. Macca recently said in an interview she’d like to come back home and start a goalkeeping setup on the Gold Coast so we definitely know where her heads at!
Daan and Ellie definitely seem happy to stay in Europe.
I agree that Ellie/Daan will stay in Europe cuz of Daan's coaching plans n that they love Europe. Who knows one day with enough coaching experience she will be the next manager of Matildas?

Macca / Kirsty = Most likely Australia. Macca can set up her biz n Kirsty be the accountant.

Sam/ Kristy = Yeah 1/2 in their beach home in Perth n 1/2 in USA.

The rest of the girls with European partners.... all Australia.

Which European doesn't love sunny and relaxed Australia ?

She’s 30 in November this year, so yes she’s 31 next year
If Arsenal wants young players, why are they rumoured to sign a 28yo winger? That being said I have seen people say she is being signed to fill Viv's role. In any case, I'm not opposed to another winger joining because Cait was overplayed this season as Hurtig was out. They will be starting the new season in four competitions so the more options and rotations, the better.
Stina and Russo is the replacement for Viv. Mariona is the LW. She will replace Foord as a starter and Foord will get some game time as a sub. Not a bad thing as Foord will get required rest. This also means if she wants to keep her place she will have to perform out of her skin , because Mariona is super talented.
Oh hi Jonas is that you? If they’re in all four comps Mariona won’t be the starter, they’ll share the role which is exactly how it should be. It will be interesting to see how Mariona adjusts to the style of play, but it will only push Caitlin to perform better anyway. Think this is a great thing tbh for Caitlin.
Mariona will fit in fast as she is naturally gifted player and Lia is there to help her. Agree with you on the point this is definitely push Foord to focus more and perform better. But as you can see Foord is not in form and last few matches she didn't start. Arsenal inside journos claims this will be the process Jones will continue to follow.
Not disagreeing Mariona is a gifted player, but it’s well known Spanish players can struggle at first when coming to the English league. Therefore it’s great she’ll have time to step up as Foord can play the same position and we’re not really losing anything? Foord is fine, you’re dramatic saying she isn’t in form. She got the conti cup assist to win it, plus an assist on the weekend to level the game against city. Her finishing has been off for club 100%, hopefully that can be fixed in the off season as it’s not normal for her. And no lmfao she HAS started the last few matches, aside from the man city game as they wanted her and Steph to come on as super subs. This works really well so it’s likely they’ll explore this again against certain opponents who tire out quickly. If you’re trying to come in and troll this thread about one of our players, at least come with some facts and ball knowledge. Coming on as a sub against some opponents isn’t a bad thing BTW it seems like you’re trying to insinuate that.

He doesn’t want to sell them, just perhaps use them differently. In both the recent wins against City and Chelsea they have both been brought on at the same time against tiring defences and created a goal in each game.

Can’t see either leaving atm

How is this a troll post ? Arsenal wants fresh faces apparently and Jones want to use Caitlin as a sub rather than a starter also Steph not an regular stater also.
He doesn’t want to sell them, just perhaps use them differently. In both the recent wins against City and Chelsea they have both been brought on at the same time against tiring defences and created a goal in each game.

Can’t see either leaving atm
After Viv I don't think anything is impossible. Caitlin and Steph both will be 31 next year and it's clear Arsenal wants young players.
Huh, Foord just turned 29
She’s 30 in November this year, so yes she’s 31 next year
If Arsenal wants young players, why are they rumoured to sign a 28yo winger? That being said I have seen people say she is being signed to fill Viv's role. In any case, I'm not opposed to another winger joining because Cait was overplayed this season as Hurtig was out. They will be starting the new season in four competitions so the more options and rotations, the better.

Were behind the scenes stuff ever released from during the WC? Last one from football australia that I saw was of the France friendly beforehand?
They fumbled the bag by not releasing another docu-series, anything about the WC, or the rise of the Matilda's tbh. Our social media team needs to do better.

Have they done anything besides that 60 mins interview?
Isn't there a new doco coming out soon on Stan?

I can see alanna staying given they’ll have more games next year and she will likely still play enough to keep her there. Having said that, city will bring in another CB with Houghton stopping so if that CB is rated higher than alanna then she falls even further down the pecking order. Teagan is “multi year” but not sure how many years but definitely is not up for renewal this summer.

I do wonder whether that bracket of older Aussies who have been away from home for so many years will maybe sign new deals to keep them abroad for a couple more years and then head home?
I’ve wondered about this too. For the ones who want to settle in Australia post-playing career it would make sense. Like Mini at West Ham very much feels like a stopgap. I know she has said she’ll retire there, so coming back to Aus to play is out of the question, but I would be very surprised if they choose to live in the UK full time after she retires. Others in that age range who are in the WSL now I could totally see playing a year or two in the Dub to cap off their careers. As for who will live in Aus full time after playing I have no idea.

This might be a silly question but the topic of where players will settle to live permanently post football got me thinking about visas/moving to aus. How easy would it be for some of the european partners to just move to aus post football and be able to live there? Do you need to be married/have a certain job or something? my only knowledge of the australian visa system is of friends who travelled there but that isnt the same as wanting to move there. Like could Kirsty with her British passport just rock up with Mac and decide to live in Aus without being married first?
They can get what’s called a partner visa. First they’d get a temporary one and then a permanent one. They have to be in Australia to apply for it though. And they have to prove their relationship is genuine and has been going on long enough. Their partner has to sponsor them for it. Daan will likely get one even if they plan to live in Europe because it’ll allow her to visit and stay in Australia as much and for as long as she wants at a time. Kirsty too. I bet Kristie already has one.
Thanks, that was very helpful! Probably would help their case that all of the partners involved are accomplished professionals in their own right, would likely be able to find work quite easily whether thats within football or something else. Kirsty has a finance and accounting degree for example. Think we are still a fair few years away from a lot of these thinking about moving back home and finishing their careers hopefully anyway.

Alanna is through 2025 for sure, she had extended last year or something. Whether staying there is going to be best for her remains to be seen though, Casparij has been good and I think they’re in direct competition with one another. Teagan I would assume 2025? Not sure if Liverpool ever gave a length. But generally you don’t buy a young keeper for just a year and she’s only 26 so I’d assume through 2025 or even 2026.

Agreed with this. Think Ellie settles in Europe and they make a trip out of visiting Aus a couple of times a year or something. Which isn’t bad! Sam and Kristie I can def see splitting time/having a home in both Aus and the US. Kristie is too close to her family to want to be away from them all the time and same for Sam, halfsies is very fair lol

For Kyra in the Arsenal other than get to learn from experience players like Lia and Kim I don't think Jones' as a coach has much to offer.

Wouldn't be surprised if she gave birth there, especially if Clara's family is in Sweden and can help out when bub is born, especially if Mini is still trying to make the Olympics squad.
Maybe with Mini being injured and her season being over it was best to get the whole family back to Sweden so Clara can be around family at the end stages of pregnancy and have support around her whilst Mini tries to get back for the Olympics. She wouldnt be able to fly that late into pregnancy I dont think so hence the driving?

What are the contract lengths of Teags and Lani? Through 2025 each at Liverpool and City?

talking of contract renewals, it would not surprise me if we don't hear anything for a little while. Contracts run up until the end of June, so technically whilst the season is ending, their contracts are not just yet. Gives the clubs time to sort something out with them and for the players to see what their options are. Especially for Macca there could be quite a lot of GK movement this summer so she would potentially be smart to keep her options open a little longer and see what might unfold.

So one more week until the WSL season ends. Most of our girls are locked in with contracts and are unlikely to be transferred anywhere. Think it’s just Macca and Sam (never thought I’d be writing that about her!) who are out of contract/haven’t had contracts officially announced. So it’s more than likely we may hear something this week before their last games if they are NOT returning.

I think from memory there were rumours Sam had signed a one year deal in January but did her ACL shortly after so it wasn’t ever announced. I wonder if they’ll comment on that at all? She’s still at least 5 months from playing again if not more.

Macca I can’t see going anywhere else and we’ve debated this pretty recently. If West Ham resign her, it will be a good news story for them to share with fans at the completion of the season but their final game isn’t a home game so there isn’t major incentive to do it before the final game.
I think it’s more to do with her legal troubles than her injury.
DA I think so too. I don’t expect to hear anything until after the next court date, and then only depending on outcome.

Macca - the only place I could see her going is Villa if van Domselaar goes to Arsenal as rumoured, and Villa takes her away from her support system in London and puts her on a team with Daly, who she appeared to have had a falling out with at West Ham. I would be more surprised by her leaving than by her staying but that’s a gut feeling based on nothing.
Macca fell out with Daly?
They were besties, and then suddenly they weren’t hanging out and unfollowed each other. In retrospect, it’s possible that it was a side effect of one of Macca’s best mates getting together with Rachel’s ex, and nothing to do with the two of them as such.
Nah, I really don’t think there was that much drama. Daly was already seeing someone else at that point. Not to mention her best mate MBright was still very tight with Sam too and there was no drama there. Let’s remember Mac had a habit of following/unfollowing/blocking various people. But this was 4 years ago, they’ve no doubt matured since then.

I didn't know, thanks.
