It's been a long time. So many transfers, wins losses but I have a question...

Gabi/Larson/Erdem
.. Who is the captain of captains?
It's difficult to choose one.

Before we comment and judge their way of being a captain, we have to look at what kind of team they are in and what teammates they are with. I think these factors will affect how they act as a captain.
It's just for fun, for me since Gabi is my favorite so she is the Captain but I bet many will think it is Erdem, Larson or like some poster above they like KIm. No wrong answer here.

Same. I truly believe they were once together.

That's a good question. All three of them are excellent captains, respected and stable presences in their teams.

For me, in the number one spot, I put Gabi. I admit I’m biased since I am from Brazil, but Gabi has all the qualities to be a great captain. She’s charming, has a calming presence, is dependable, and is enthusiastic without antagonizing her opponents.

Instead of Larson or Eda for the second place, I also choose Kim. Maybe she’s not as calm, but her presence always inspires confidence in her teammates. Most importantly, she’s not a sore loser. I remember in Tokyo, after she was defeated by Brazil, she embraced and hugged Nati, and she did the same with Boskovic after being defeated by Serbia.

Personally, I just think Larson and Eda are good captains but not particularly interesting individual, they are a bit boring

Didn't Eda fight with a few players? And that's why they left Fenerbahce/the NT? So probably not her
I don't know about the fight, but I remember she unfollowed KYK after Korea defeat her team in Tokyo lol. She followed her back again though after some time passed
eda has beef with naz but idk if there's anybody else
Nah that beef is just rumour mill. They're fine.
KYK, though one of best in her prime and can carry a team, apparently is very hard on her teammates. I wish I could find the video but her fellow NTs said so. I think someone calming on field in the tense situations like Erdem, Gabi or Larson would be required.
I've watched the video of her teammate NT saying that KYK is indeed hard on her NT teammate but they said they don't mind it and that it pushes them to do their best and she always shields them from the public if they make mistakes. So she isn't afraid to criticize her teammates in private but always takes responsibility and protects them from public's criticism. I think it is a great characteristic of a captain. And she seems close with some of her teammates from what I've seen she seems a fun person off the court. I remember Larson said that KYK is the funniest person she ever played with, but I agree KYK is sometimes a bit too emotional.

Larson is a great captain, she has some kind of calming aura about her. Personally, I choose Gabi. She's like the perfect combination between a fun teammate and a charismatic captain

For NT? I prefer KYK, she can bring Korea team that well tbh a shitty team to Olympic semi and she always can bring her NT to trust her and she can always lift her team's spirits and make them believe that they can do it. Case example : Turkiye vs Korea match in Tokyo

I also love Gabi she has a perfect balance between fun, hardworker and discipline player, and she's also charismatic

Well KYK and Gabi are the type of player that fun and charming off the court but can be serious and charismatic on the court while Erdem and Larson are more serious and less fun type of teammate. Personally I prefer captain like KYK or Gabi
Agree with KYK and Gabi both can be a fun teammate but they can also be a charismatic captain.

Lol Gabi is the opposite's magnet, she's really close with Haak too right? And with Egonu even if they only play together 1 year but they really close. Not really close with Thompson though

Don't forget that her gf was also an opposite, lol she has a good chemistry with opposite
thompson is always praising gabi on social media. but i think gabi just gets on well with everyone, she seems like a great teammate.
Yes all that American Chiaka and JT always praise Gabi on social media, but I think that poster mean they're not that close like Haak and Egonu. Gabi seems like a really nice person and a great teammate. Many players have said good things about her, and she appears to be dedicated and disciplined, as mentioned by Guidetti.

Boskovic next season is $2m, she's the highest paid women volleyball player this season if I'm not wrong. I don't know for every country but in general I think women volleyball is more popular right? Because volleyball is perceived as a 'woman sport'. Or I'm biased since I only watch women volleyball 😅

Just like women gymnastic is more popular than men gymnastics
Highly doubt it as TK economy is far from great and the value of Lira dropped. Did not Eczasibasi face some difficulty with sponsorship recently?
Thai players did not renew contracts with Sariyer because the wage not paid in full. Sariyer is not Ecz yet, how hard lower-tier teams struggled reflected how tight TK economy was.

In most parts of the world, men's volleyball is more popular.
Not the op but it's true actually, it was announced sometimes before that Boskovic is renew her contract with Eczacibasi and the next season salary is $2 mill, that make her the highest paid volleyball player right now. Don't know about the sponsorship but didn't Eczacibasi just build a new arena?

Well I don't know all country but in country where volleyball is quite popular like in Brazil, China, US, Korea, Thailand, Turkey the women volleyball is actually way more popular than men. I actually only know Poland and Japan where the male volleyball is more popular. In US volleyball is a bit considered like woman sport while for men it is basketball or american football
Well I'm from US, yes here woman volleyball is way way more popular. Don't even know anyone that watch the men. That's why the new league is only women because in NCAA female volleyball is way more popular

Well, they don't make it easy for the the average person to attend, do they? It's difficult to plan a trip to the Olympics one month before, except if you're rich and don't have to work. And then they don't know why volleyball events have low attendance. Fivb is a joke 🖕
Well, Olympic don't work like other tournament. The ticket are almost already sold all. There is a specific path you need to follow, years before knowing who will partecipate. I know because on December 2022 I subscribed online for the possibility to buy olimpic tickets. On May 2023 for only 2 days I was able to buy the ticket on a maximun of 6 event, if i remember correctly. I choosed woman's 3/4 and 1/2 finals of volleyball.
If you go to the tickets website there's tickets available to every phase of the tournament, so it's not sold out at all. Probably because most people want to see specific teams, not just the final or semi-finals with any team.

Does anyone have any idea when the pool and schedule for the Paris Olympics will be released? I want to attend but I need to know the dates for the games so that I can book hotels and my days off of work.

I wonder is the volleyball salary in Russia is great? Or volleyball is not that popular there? I asked because in basketball for a long time Russia is where the money is for top female player. That's why most top female basketball player played in Russia before. But it seems it's not the case with volleyball?
Recently, top RU players seemingly interested to play outside of RU. No idea if it was because of the FIVB ban or the salary.

Well depend on sport, in volleyball in several country women volleyball is way more popular than men so it is not that unusual if women getting paid more. I don't really know, but is there any male player that getting paid more than Boskovic in Turkiye? I doubt it. Maybe Turkiye's poster can confirm this, I doubt their male league player is paid more than Boskovic. Well in Italy maybe because their male league is also popular
Just like gymnastic, woman gymnast is way more popular and get a lot of endorsement.
In Japan men volleyball is really popular so I think yes in Japan the male athlete will be paid more than their women counterpart.
It is very unusual and women usually paid much less even if the viewership rating is close or even equal.
Seemingly, the record for female player is Zhu Ting, somewhere from $1.45m - 1.6m. And, of course, highest salary for female players come from Turkiye, but the disparity between highest paid and lowest paid is stark. Italia is paid more evenly and the average salary (for volleyballers) is higher there.
Also, it seems, for top paid players, there is no big different between male and female players but, for mid-tier players, there is huge salary gap between male and female ones.

I read about Uzelac last week or 2 weeks ago I forgot but it was before Karakurt's drunk incident. From what I read she is in Rio de Janeiro and some Brazilian said that Rio is much more dangerous than other Brazilian city, so that some Brazilian also afraid to walk around in Rio

About Japanese league is it more for men's league or for women too? I know some top Japanese male player that come back to Japan next year because their Italian team can't match the offer from Japanaese team. But it's all the male player not female player
I'm confident Fluminense is a place. No idea where in Brazil it is.

??? Everywhere in the world, men get paid multiple times more than women.

In volleyball world, usually, it's strong scorer that is more sought after and paid higher. Meanwhile, Japanese players, female ones especially, are known to be shorter and floor defense well. Foreign clubs unlikely will offer high wage to Japanese players thus, they are not incentivized to go abroad. Mind that it is not just the number of money but also familiar environment, being close to family and no language barrier.

Under the new system, Japan will have 3 divisions of VB clubs. This means increased amount of overall clubs hence, more demand for players.

From 2003 to 2016 in Japan, women's volleyball was more popular than men's volleyball and attracted more spectators, but the coach at the time said, ``Men's volleyball still receives more salary and training expenses than women's volleyball.'' he said.

fluminense is in rio de janeiro, it's not a place. the club is affiliated with the fluminense football club, which is one of the most traditional football clubs in brazil. the word "fluminense" literally means "from rio de janeiro".

women get paid more than men in brazilian volleyball, bernardinho himself has said it. the women's superliga gets 2x the viewers of the men's superliga.

oh and btw what happened to uzelac is very tragic and it's not a normal occurrence, even in rio (which is indeed the most dangerous city in brazil). many foreigners and celebrities live in rio, it's a complicated city but it's not a warzone. hopefully she heals from it as i'm sure it was very traumatic. fluminense has given her the choice to leave (they released claire felix, who was with her when it happened), so it's up to her if she wants to finish the season or not.
da the robber might targeted them, foreigners playing in a volleyball club although idk how popular the club in brazil or if they got high salary. Or as foreigners maybe they don't know which place to avoid when traveling.
Glad that the club give them the option to leave.

So the question you must ask is Karch still homophobic? Like between two players who have same talents would he choose the obvious straight player than the one with rumors? The answer probably yes
wdym still homophobic? did he ever do anything homophobic before?

those bi players (carli lloyd and kim hill, i think) were liked by karch, no?
I'm pretty sure Carli has not been in NT for some years because her style does not fit the "team system".
da Her playing style? Can you tell me more about this? I'm curious and I genuinely don''t know much about team tactics etc.
I think the confirmed ones are Hill (who dated Wolosz), Lloyd (Stevanovic) and Washington (some said she dated Hancock??). Seems like Poulter is dating Gray as well
that's the first time i'm hearing about the haleigh/micha pairing. do you have any receipts?

oh i'm pretty sure alexa gray is a mormon... or at least she was when she was playing for byu

macris and her wife are separated it seems
how so? any (reliable) sources?
This is old news. Twitter decided to talk about it this week because of a video of Macris playing Uno where she didn't have a ring on (she actually hasn't worn it in months, more on that later), but it probably happened some time ago.

Here's the timeline:

VNL week 3 in Bangkok. Macris was super emotional and was crying a lot after the matches. Most people thought that it was because the NT wasn't doing well and she was taking a lot of the blame for it, which is probably also true to some extent. She then disabled her comments on instagram and archived all of her personal photos. It was mostly photos of her with her wife, but also some photos of her cats and of her family. We knew she was getting a lot of hate on social media, so no one connected this to marital issues at the time and we just thought she was protecting her loved ones.

South American Championship. Macris had a back injury and didn't play at all, but she was on the roster. A sports journalist leaked that she was having personal issues in addition to the injury. After the end of the Championship, she was released from the NT and Naiane went to the Olympic Qualifications instead. Then, she deleted her instagram, so we didn't hear from her for a while.

Club season starts. Macris is still injured and doesn't play much. She is friends with Oszoy and is seen occasionally in her stories, never wearing her ring. Some people noticed, but they kept it quiet.

Christmas/New Years break. Macris travels around Europe with Diana and Diana's boyfriend. She's not wearing her ring in any of the videos. A few people started speculating if she was still with her wife, who lives in Brazil, since it's a bit weird to not spend time with her during the only long break you're gonna get in the season.

Macris reactivates her instagram. She makes a long post about how the past year has been incredibly hard and thanks THY for their support, but doesn't go into specifics.

Back to the Uno video from a few days ago. Most people already suspected that something was up but didn't say anything, but then one tweet about it went viral and it became an opportunity for people to talk about it.

Macris is very private and it's unlikely that we are going to get a confirmation on this, but it seems pretty clear that they are not together anymore to me.

Since it's also said her style worked with European teams better, I guess her setting was slower and higher and did not use MB much? USA team seemed to prefer faster ball and more balanced scoring between MB and OH/OPP.

This holds truth no more as most European teams have been faster. Still, do not use MB as spiker much.

Some VB news I saw
- Chemik Police club from Poland likely will be dissolved due to bad economy. The main sponsor is withdrawing.

- Japan has officially revamped its VB league. From now onward, each pro team in top league (SV.League) can have up to 3 foreigners (2 foreigner, 1 Asian). The quota may increase to 3 foreigners + 1 Asian later.

- Uzelec, Serbian player of Fluminense, freaked out as she experienced armed robbery twice within 10 days in Brazil. She wanted to leave Brazil as soon as possible fearing for her life.
da wow is it that bad in Brazil? Or the players live in sketchy area? I hope the club can understand and release her asap.
