In response to his latest tweet about putting his name to rumours someone said he was disrespectful for what he said about Viv not fitting into the team & after all she’s done for the club she deserves the benefit of the doubt in return, his response to that was
‘That’s not *my* opinion. That’s based on what I have observed in the team and how I think the coach sees it (and I might be wrong about that anyway).’ I don’t quite know what he means, is he saying what he said was incorrect?
He’s avoiding saying he’s been told she’s gone this summer and trying to explain it away as she no longer fits into the team. Well yeah Viv’s been injured the last two years. But to say she’s not needed is a leap, even just for rotation purposes who are you getting that’s more football wise and can execute plays better than Viv on her best days?
To me Arsenal either think she won’t get back to her best with that knee or Viv refused a cut in salary or contract length. To me it’s a little crazy not to keep her just on jersey sales alone and media promotion for the club. Timmy is just saying don’t attack him, it’s Jonas that can’t or won’t fit Viv into the team.
That’s the thing though with salary wherever she goes she’s surely going to take a cut in salary
Viv's salary won't get a paycut but maybe less bonuses and add ons. Russo earns less than Viv, Leah, Beth but she earns massive bump add ons (goal, game appearance, ads appearance).
But if Viv moves to United or Liverpool they definitely can match her salary at Arsenal and their ads are crazy, Viv could earn big money from being their postergirl especially at United. There is report United Women got their biggest revenue from sponsorship ads (Arsenal revenue from ticket and selling merchandise on matchday).
When Viv re-signed in 2022 she became the highest paid WSL player - over the likes of Pernille Harder and Sam Kerr who had been massive Chelsea signings. She’s probably on 500k, at least.
Liverpool can’t afford that. Plus their whole MO is buying under the radar players with good stats, not the big stars who command the massive salaries - they are the same as the men in that respect. United would make more sense.
Liverpool can afford that. Easily. Their GM negotiated with ownership to invest in the women’s team more and they’ve been doing that. They’re paying to have a new premier league standard pitch put in at their new ground for next season. They’re not messing around with their women’s team investments. Getting Viv at pretty much whatever salary wouldn’t be hard. Given that they don’t have any big name players as of yet, she could pretty much name her price. But at the same time she knows she’s not worth what she was on at Arsenal. There’s a happy medium between what she was on and what Arsenal want to reduce her salary to, and surely Liverpool (or United) would pay it. With Stina staying it is abundantly clear Viv is not staying and as mad as people are, it MAKES COMPLETE SENSE from a business perspective. Which is what these teams are. They are businesses.
