kpop/drama fans are still not aware the truth about bullying in sk? there's a reason lots of drama portray it as that, because there's a semblance of truth into it. there are lots of suicides because of bullying

imo it has become better lately because genz are more aware of social cues but up until the millenial time, bullying in school and workplace are still prevalent. it's not a taboo topic since dramas, variety shows keep talking about those school bullying but it's practically a norm for them back then

^to the anon above, someone mentioned hsh's bullying again. some netizens are not believing it tho

The reason there are lots of Kdramas with bullying in them is because it attracts audiences. Just look at this thread as an example: some op is always posting gossip and accusations about bullying. TV creators will feed audiences what they want to consume, until the subject begins to lose steam.

Are we now to believe that the reason there are so many depictions of ugly and disgusting table manners in Kdramas (characters gorging, stuffing food into mouths, talking with mouths full of food, boozing until blitzed) is because gluttony is common among SKs?

Anon, this shit happened in my country too. Many drama about bullying were produced, then more bullying happen in real life. Some teenagers, young people dead because of this. People are blind by tv. Some of them trust news too much until they can't see the truth. Tv, media plays huge role how people behave, interact. There are patterns, it's not coming out of nowhere..i hate drama like this, i would just watch the less bullying one. Wait, Bitch x Rich s2 is bullying theme too? Did it got postponed because of people concern about bullying?

LMFAO. So untrue. Even, the attempt to protect students from teachers' abuses turns teachers powerless and subjects to be bullied by students and parents. 2 teachers were bullied into suicides last year.

I saw many foreigners believed the bullying in "The Glory" was larger than life for dramatic value but, it did really happen in real life. The bullying in the drama mirrored that of a real case from some years ago.

The subject of bullying exists is all societies. It always has. In the U.S. it has been the plot of many drama and comedy movies (Carrie, Mean Girls, The Karate Kid, Heathers, Girl Fight, etc.). You will find many stories about victims of bullying in true crime docuseries -- there's one called Mean Girl Murders. Even the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) has a web page dedicated to bullying.

The problem with having many Kdramas and films that include bullying is that it inadvertently creates a backdoor glorification about it.

The title of this thread isn't "Korean Dramas About Lesbians".

Except from small-minded people like you, the rest of us can watch and like a drama because of the actress who's in it.

Most dramas I watch don't have any lesbian characters in them because they barely exist, I don't watch any het romance though. I just don't get why do you come here to talk about this het drama when you can do that literally anywhere else? Where is all the talk here about the het romance? Are they under spoiler tags? Because I haven't seen any.

You have control issues. You want to impose your limited worldview on the rest of us. But that's not going to happen.

If a het Kd has an actress we like, or a female character we like, the Kd will be discussed here.

TLC rules do not have a restriction about the kind of tv shows we can talk about. What TLC doesn't allow is this: "Topics focusing on heterosexual relationships, both confirmed and speculative, and male celebrities (outside of their involvement in ongoing legal, political, or otherwise newsworthy topics that are current events)....." - https://thelchat.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=75444

and that hasn't happened here.

It's better to discuss shows with het relationships here. In other places the fans of the male actors are super annoying. They destroyed every discussion about Strong Girl Nam Soon in order to worship the villain. He tried to kill Nam Soon's family and actually killed around 1000 people but Nam Soon was actually the evil bitch because she tried to save people instead of worshipping their oppa. Insanity.

Nominating an actress/actor for their performance in a tv series does not mean the series is also nominated.
The acting by an actor in a drama is separate from the drama.

It happens with the Emmys, as well.

So what's your point? There were at least 10 other actresses more deserving for a nomination this year. There are only 5 spots after all. Kim Jiwon was nominated last year, it's not a conspiracy against her like the crazies on Twitter think.

No one forced you to watch a het drama. People recommend all kinds of dramas and movies in this thread and it was never an issue. Kim Jiwon has become hot topic with Queen of tears thus it’s ok to talk about it here. And to be honest I still don’t know what the drama is about because most people droll over the lead actress.

It's about Hong Hae-in, a department store heiress, and Baek Hyun-woo (Kim Soo-hyun), a lawyer from a farm family, whose marriage has fallen apart. He desperately wants to get out of it and just when he's about to serve divorce papers to Hae-in finds out from her that she has been keeping a secret: she's been diagnosed with a brain tumor and has been given three months to live. While this is happening, a billionaire investor with a mysterious past and grudge against the Hong family has plotted to take over the Queens Group company and destroy the Hong legacy, with the assistance of people who have infiltrated the family and company.

Hae-in is a cool and collected, self-controlled, and intimidating person with both family members and as head of the Queens department store. While some think she's cold-hearted because of how she deals with troublesome people and business decisions, she is not.

The diamond in this drama is Kim Soo-hyun and how she plays Hae-in. She's the reason QoT is worth watching.

Also in it are Kim Jung-nan (as her furious aunt who despises Moh Seul-hee, the long-term, live-in girlfriend of Hae-in's grandfather), Yoon Bo-mi, Lee Joo-bin, and Hwang Young-hee.

I have doubts about starting hyped shows like Queen of Tears. Last year i tried watching Vincenzo one of the most hyped and popular Korean shows and I thought that it was awful beyond belief. Dropped at episode 6. Surprisingly Vincenzo and Queen of Tears have the same director. I guess she is the next big thing in Korean dramas. She also directed Little Women.

Watch her miraculously get well. I am thinking if I should still fool myself too, but my weakness are cute and introverted girls like Jiwoon. :bigcry:

I actually watched Eve last week lol
It was really entertaining but and some scenes were unintentionally funny(like the solo tango scene) . It's more like a soap opera/telenovela plot.
I didn't like the ending though and the revenge didn't really pay off.
I bet Seo Yea-ji had to stop herself from laughing over the tango obsession.

I don't disagree that the series can feel like a telenovela, but I don't think that was supposed to be intentional. Imo, the blame lies in the heavy-handed amateurish music. The music score and the songs were annoying for me. The music here is used like a hammer to overemphasize the emotions of scenes. Whoever composed it doesn't know the meaning of subtlety and instead the music beats emotional intensity to a pulp. The songs selection is also uninspired. When used correctly, songs are supposed to create atmosphere and emotional connection from the audience.

Actors, though, have no say in the music score and songs the director/producer and music supervisor choose.

But what makes you say the revenge didn't really pay off?

I started watching Goblin and wtf... It's so boring.
The first 2 episodes were ok but the next 4 ones are so boring. How is this one of most famous Kdramas? Is it because it looked much better/high budget compared to other Kdramas back in 2016.

Well the Korean show ''Somebody'' had lesbian characters and even had kissing scenes. Soljiwan only had hugs/hand holding.
Another drama called Pyramid Game was released recently and it had lesbian characters. And they were the only ship in that show, it had no het pairings at all.
Also back in January a drama called LTNS with the actress Esom had lesbian stuff.
The whole drama had 6 episodes and episode number 4 was about a lesbian couple. It even showed actual sex scenes.

Park Eunbin was just casted in some superhero drama and she will soon start filming the other drama where she plays a crazy doctor.
I doubt they will ever film Attorney Woo season 2.

I was just expecting something different with the revenge.
SEO Yeaji tango scenes were cringe and she wasn't really good at it.
I really think she is cancelled for good since it's been almost 2 years since Eve and no casting news.

Eve is a 2022 production. Not enough time has passed to assume anything about Yea-ji's career. In November 2023, the breach of contract lawsuit against her by the cosmetics brand that stemmed from the allegations made about her in 2021 was dismissed by the court as unproven accusations (her agency, though, had to refund half of the advertisement model fees the company had pre-paid). She's probably taking a much-needed break from the bullsh*t.

As for the revenge:
