What's the NewJeans formula btw?
1. vintage, curated, tasteful, stylish, elevated etc. visual aesthetic
2. top quality non green screen MVs
3. “anti kpop” sound (that ironically now became the standard)
4. extremely pretty natural looking members (feel like this is an underrated point tbh)
5. everyone speaks english
6. artistic vision and immense attention to detail when it comes to everything (quality above everything)
7. cool/well thought out collaborations and brand deals
8. minimal pre release marketing. basically do everything differently and have that ‘annoying artsy alt kid’ energy
9. no member stands out too much, the group is bigger than the individual, not many variety shows keeps them mysterious
10. good music lol
(a lot of this comes from the fact MHJ is genuinely a narcissistic neurotic workaholic prodigy)
Prodigy? She copied most of their concepts and songs from pinkpantheress and others. Also “natural pretty looking members” that applies to any kpop group. Tokkis are saying NJ came up with visuals now?
You sound pressed for no reason relax.
MHJ didn’t “copy” pinkpantheress, their first EP sounds nothing like her. She is a creative prodigy in the sense she is able to find and pull from many many obscure references like very few creative directors in kpop can. Ofc she didn’t
invent anything, but she’s the one being way ahead of her time and catching trends before they become trendy. You can see that in her work with f(x), Shinee, Red Velvet and now Newjeans in its fully realize vision.
Also every member being above average visually doesn’t apply to every group. Usually there’s like 2 very pretty members that hard carry and the rest are “normal” (for idol standards). I say I find that to be an underrated point about them because literally everyone was flabbergasted about their visuals when they first came out and that was (and keeps on being) one of the main talking points about them. Newjeans without their S tire visual appeal wouldn’t be as successful imo (unfortunately).
Having visuals in the group is not something NJ started at all. In fact besides Haerin and Minji the rest are considered above average pretty girls and that’s it. Kpop has always been about visuals, Yoona was the
original visual and the one who started the trend of having a pretty natural girl next door in every GG. Nj did not start that unless you became a kpop fan in 2024.
