Question about y’all’s fandoms:
You know the “big” Korean fans every fandom seems to have? You know: the fansites, the ones with thousands of twitter followers, the ones that are always at fansigns and getting fan calls etc. The ones where if you’re familiar enough with the fandom.. everyone knows who they are?
Maybe it’s different depending on the group, but I notice a lot of them are predominantly women. It gets me wondering how many of them might be gay. It’s so much harder to tell with Korean fans because they’d definitely be less likely to broadcast that.. but sometimes there’s things that make me go “hmm.” I’d guess in the Mamamoo fandom things might be more open with the Korean fans, but it feels like much more of a mystery with other groups. I just feel like among some of these women that are stanning a girl group THAT hard, there’s gotta be some lesbians.
I notice for international fans (and to a lesser extent Chinese fans) the women who are “big” or hardcore stans in the fandom have a higher chance of being wlw.. I wonder if that’s the same for the Korean fans.
What do you think, of course there are lesbian fans and straight female fans. There are both and the female idols know that too. They are used to it and used to being adored by everyone.
I've been to fansigns and I've heard other lesbians talking about their girlfriends while waiting with other fans and some of them talk to the idols about it as well. It's quite crazy as some of them decorate their outfits with all the idols' merch and printouts or pcs under their jackets or cardigans to show them how much they love them. The idols usually see them and smile at them for being cute and those fan girls are quite obviously into women. Some fansites though are straight girls and married but committed to the idols that they tell the idols that their husbands are jealous of the idols and the idols start laughing and console them about it.
There are many pretty fans of IVE's, like seriously many very pretty when it comes to wy and the minor. And very very very tall female fans... Like an average of 168cm tall

I know straight women can be just as hardcore in their stanning, but I guess I just have a hard time believing there wouldn't be lesbians in that mix. It's definitely the case for international fans, and obviously, it's not hard to tell because they're far more open about their sexuality. I've heard about some of the Korean fans talking to idols about girlfriends etc at fansigns, so I know there are some that are more open about it. And also there are some that are... obviously gay lol. Sometimes there's a subtle difference in how these fans talk about the idols in a way that's not quite the same as that straight girl crush behavior.. but it's not as obvious. It's a lot easier to tell how many wlw fans are on the international side, so I wonder if it's the same-ish representation among Korean fans, especially the hardcore ones.

From observation, it's 50:50, less obvious compared to international fans. I'm sure this thread has talked about this before but in Korea right now mainly because of gender conflict and patriachy, lesbians do their best to grow their hair long to protect themselves from violence from men in Korea. So they are used to acting femme to protect themselves. If you ask if it's that bad there then yes it is right now, sometimes short haired women get yelled at or insulted or assaulted randomly by male incels. So lesbians, straight women, all try to look as feminine as possible to protect themselves from male violence in their society. They are still alright with feminine acting short haired girls but those tomboyish girls there with short hair are assumed to be feminists and sometimes lesbians. It's sad.
That's the main difference. When they go to fansigns they don't talk out loud about their lesbian love. They aren't that outspoken about it. Some you will guess they are lesbians because of their entire aura with the short hair and all and how they get excited when the female idols interact as pairings. I'm sure those female idols can sense that as well and play along with whatever they want to unless lines are crossed. There are straight women who go there and play flirting games with the female idols then they start yapping about their husbands or boyfriends. That's when the female idols look bewildered but only for a few seconds and then they start joking around with the fangirls. And of course there are lesbians who just seem to be straight girls like me who talk to them about jokes or whatever inspirational stuff that's happened lately and some others would use that chance to confess to the idols too.
The most fun incident was when a fangirl I knew talked about how she spent thousands to collect one of the idols' photocards and explained how she could use them to build a pyramid and keep that in a museum and she was very very very pretty and so the female idol said so I must be your type aren't I, and she said I only love you because I want to be you, I have a girlfriend I love. And the female idol decided to play it off more as a joke and said it's time you build a larger pyramid of photocards with your girlfriend's face then
