It was written by western producers and bought for the album with some lyrics tweaked after the fact. It would be funny if the original demo was actually meant to be more directly sapphic and the lyrics were changed for the twist at the end. Or maybe the original song wasn't written for a specific gender in mind in terms of the POV and the pronouns were meant to be flexible, although it really doesn't sound like it would be written about a man lol. Or this really could be how the song was originally written, hard to say.

I get the idea of singing about yourself in the third person, or the subject of the song not being meant as the singer's actual love interest and just describing a person in general. But in this song it does seem like there's a very intentional twist to reveal that the subject ISN'T a love interest after all because of the line at the end "But little did I know that she's really me?" The idea of this song is weird in its execution. It's as though it's going for two reveals: 1)The twist is the singer is saying at the end "I've been talking about this girl being weird/a freak, but I'm actually the one that's like that, this is who I am etc etc" and 2) It sounds like the singer was talking about a love interest, but was really talking about herself.

So even if in the end the reveal is that "I'm the freak I've been singing about, it's not a love song about another woman"... for 90% of the song it DOES sound like she's singing about another woman and it's mean to sound like her love interest lol? It's not quite a full "no-homo" (which is funny considering Yuqi's track record) and I don't think it's meant to be bait-y.. I almost feel like when Yuqi or the company picked up this song they didn't fully realize that the song may have been a little more intentionally sapphic than it ended up sounding. Or Yuqi genuinely doesn't mind doing a song like this for whatever reason. Hard to imagine her getting in the booth singing her ass off about a woman and not having the thought cross her mind at all lmao.

It's that the song initially leads you to believe she's singing about a female love interest then twists on you. There's no way around it that it is deceptive.

Yuqi is good at English so I don't think that she wouldn't know about the song's meaning. They chose a song with that meaning, chose to keep it in English and chose to not fully change the lyrics to match with the meaning she wanted effectively making it gaybaiting whether she intended to or not.

I highly doubt she didn't know how it would be interpreted and kept it like that for a better twist and shock, which even if it was out of ignorance, is still shitty and exploitative.

I really don't care to argue about Doyeon's sexuality. I was being transparent about my knowledge unlike you who pretends to know better.
