Da I became a fan after Selfish and don't speak Korean so anyone more tied in to K-netz especially back then should jump in and say more if needed. But what I gathered is that there is a loud faction of anti-butch K-lesbians who think that lesbians should be perfectly femme and fit the K-beauty standards exactly and not stand out in society in any way. Some of those who are into K-pop are RV fans because they think RV's aesthetics fit that ideal, and they don't like Moonbyul for being too visibly gay and different. This faction calls Moonbyul hannam butch, and they get after her not just for her aesthetic being more masc but also accusing her of perpetuating old patriarchal values. They think she's a bad representation for the community because she embodies a negative stereotype. (Personally I think that's nonsense, Moonbyul obviously isn't butch because even though she does dress more masc sometimes there are also plenty of times she presents more femme both on and off stage, and just because she sometimes acts in a chivalrous way toward other women doesn't mean she upholds the patriarchy or behaves like a gross Korean m*n at all. Her own members laughed at the idea that she's politically conservative in any way.) But anyway, this faction of RV fans got really pissed off when S€ulgi featured on Selfish and they posted a lot of hate against Moonbyul online, telling S€ulgi she should stay away from Moonbyul, some of them saying Moonbyul was basically just a queerbaiter, all kinds of stuff. Later that year the anti-butch hate got so bad against Moonbyul that her company actually sued some of the worst netizens spreading it and the news reported Moonbyul went down to the police station to testify about it. Sometimes this gets twisted into "Moonbyul sued people for calling her a lesbian!" but that's not true, she sued them for spreading sexually harassing lies about her selling her body and being a predator toward either fans or younger female idols. I don't know if those worst of the netizens who got sued were RV fans particularly, I don't actually think so, but the stuff around Selfish didn't help. So yeah, it was a pretty bad mess back in 2018.

Moonbyul has been called butch since like 2015, but it took heed in 2016. This was when the term moonbyul butch was formed as a type of hannambutch also when rumors about byul being a lesbian was increasing. RV fans didn't want seulgi associating with byul cause of all this, lol even rumors of seulgi and moonbyul dating. Some klesbians think byul is selling a lesbian image because she's "too stereotype", some think she's too corny, some think she's patriarchal and misogynistic. And alot like her and her butchness. Kmoos and klesbians are often fighting aswell, firstly because of the hate and lately aswell there's debates about it byul is even butch.
